Pasting to a position
-
Let's say I have several saved versions of a model, and I find something in an earlier version that I want to copy to a newer version. Is there any way to copy and paste it so that it appears in exactly the same place in the newer version?

I think I see what you are saying-- sort of like how Windows will let you cut copy paste among different files. I haven't tried this. But, I don't think you can have more than one Sketchup file open at one time in the same program.
If not, could you make a component of the desired geometry, place it in your components library, then call it up in the destination file? -
Use 'paste in place' under the edit menu.

In Windows, you can open two instances of Sketchup - one with the new model and one with the old model - copy from the old model, then Paste in Place in the new model as Jeff suggests.

Thanks Jeff . Wish I had asked this question a long time ago, would have saved me a bunch of work.

If you put the earlier component in a component library, you can select the component in the model and then right click on the earlier version in its library and choose Replace Selected. If the component axis origin is in the same relative place in both components, the substitution will put the earlier component in exactly the same spot and the one you are replacing.
