Exploding tire problem
-
I have a tire that I need to modify, but when I explode it, the treads go away, and I can't get them back. Any idea what's doing this, and is there a way I can work around it? Thanks

I'm guessing it's a group or component. For components, try Right-Click > Scale Definition before you explode.
-
When I do that the tread goes away before I explode it.

How did you texture the thread? Just applying material, or did you also use Position Texture?
-
It's not my model, I downloaded it from the warehouse.

Yea, I recognized the tire right after I posted the last post. Got the same in a model here myself. I think you need to remap the threads. Open up the tire, select one segment, Position the Texture, sample that texture with the Paint Bucket, select the whole thread and paint. With any luck the thread will be seamless - with less luck you need to sample + paint each segment.

But can you please explain to me what is doing this? I'd really like to understand, what did he do when he made this model that is doing this?

Make a cube - paint it with a texture. (don't sample an existing texture, click a textured material in the Material Editor so when you paint it is not a positioned texture)
-
Select one of the cube's faces and Right-Click -> Position Texture - then Done (just so it's a Positioned Texture)
-
Now group that cube and scale it up - notice the texture scale with it.
-
When you now explode the group you see that the positioned texture remains the same, while the rest changes (they change back to the size defined in the Material Editor)

Just a question. Why do you have to explode it to modify it? Why not just open it for editing?
