Don't start your model with some text

This could happen to a newbie trying out the various SU tools or to an instructor, who might want to start his/her work by writing an explanatory note before working on the model. After finalizing the text, it seems that the result of our tedious writing effort disappears.
Maybe the designers of SketchUp don't want us to follow this kind of a procedure; or should this be described as a bug? Fortunately, the text hides itself only temporarily. By moving the cursor on the text, the content again becomes visible... only to disappear again when the cursor moves away. The remedy is near: Start work on the model, and the explanatory note will become permanent.
Can anybody explain the reason for this feature to me?

It's not a 'feature' it's a known 'bug'!
To see it draw a Line in your Template as well as some Text.
Now open a new SKP using that Template - as it opens the Text is now visible.
Now Erase the Line and the Text will vanish.
Now draw a new Line - the Text reappears!
The Text is not Erased, it's only made 'invisible' when it's on its own!
So - if you want some Text to appear at startup you must have some 'Geometry' in the Model at startup too.
The Geometry could be just a tiny line 0.1mm long and 'hidden' AND on a layer that is 'off' - the text is still visible.
It must be easy to fix!
Alternatively make the Text into a Group [prevents use of screen-text] and it should still display with no other Entities...
Or make the Text as 'flat' 3D-Text in a Face-me Component-Instance.
Or add the Text as a 'Watermark' Image in a particular Style ? -
Hi folks.
This bug apply to both "Screen text" that is not attached to any geometry as well as to text that is attached to a geometry.
I tried with a center point positionned at the axes origin. I get it by drawing a circle and adding a "center point" and then deleting the circle. The small cross is quite discreet when the axes are showing. This allows me to attach a text to it or to add a "Screen text" anywhere.
I am even thinking about using a very small line that can be colored in red, for example and, of course, positionned on the red axis. That way, It would be very difficult to see but would allow the text to be seen. A template could be made with this.
Tig's idea of a very unubstrusive geometry or even a hidden one is probably the best.
Just ideas.

This works, but at that point you must have already done some drawing (which makes the text visible).

Interesting observation. The grouped text always faces the observer, but it moves according to the observation point. Essentially the grouped text behaves as if it would be attached to some entity... itself.

Yes, this one behaves like on-screen text, but it will still move in space while orbiting and panning.

This is an excellent tip for the one who wants to document a model, as it gives much more visual flexibility compared to what the text tool has to offer. The big limitation is that we are still limited to the Position pegholes offered by SU.

But the existing geometry, whether visible or not, must be in screen area. Once you rotate the model where the geometry is out of camera sight, the screen text still vanishes.
Jean reported this bug (already in SU7, maybe even before) quite some time ago.
