Baseball: Playoffs
-
I never understand a game where the ball can be pushed out of the stadium!
-
-
Solo,
I think Texas has a great shot this year. Cliff Lee's breaking ball the other day was killer. He threw a couple that seemed like they were thrown from first base.
Of course, if they do make it to the series they won't make it past the Phillies!
I love the post season when you get to see some very fine pitching performances in high pressure circumstances.
-
Yup this is the time that baseball gets interesting.
I'll be happy if we close out Tampa tomorrow and get a chance to play and beat the Yankees and secure a place in the World series. More than that that I do not even want to imagine as I'll just jinx them. This is the furtherest we have ever been, so a win tomorrow will be the best the Rangers have ever achieved, good enough reason to drink in my books.

If you want to see the fastest, most skilful, exciting field game in the world (its official by the way) have a look at the Irish game of hurling, of which Rich's county Clare, are very good exponents!!. I can easily say it is the best game in the world to watch when played at county championship level. I spent a year in Boston in my youth and was a big fan of the Red Sox when I was there - really enjoyed baseball but not as much as hurling. Sorry for hijacking the thread by the way.

Damn Yankees!
Minnesota Twins take the two games at Yankee stadium and then one at home and off they go!
Yes, I am delusional.p

Wait, what? Hurling is an official sport in Ireland?
Sounds gross but I guess I'd watch a game or two.
The stadium must stink though and be a nightmare to clean up afterwards. -
Hurling bat/paddle/stick and a baseball?
Looks like field hockey on steroids.
-
Is that a baseball or a miniature softball?
Anyway, at least I now know Irish hurling isn't really hurling.
http://www.urbandictionary.com/iphone/#define?term=hurlI'm thinking my version might be more exciting though

It gets worse Pete and Jeff. Not only is Hurling our national past time and institution. It's also an amateur sport. No money for playing as such just pride.
The stick, is a hurl, and the ball is a sliothair. Only ice hockey is faster. Seriously tough game with players beating seven shades of sh!t outta one another from start to finish.
As for James' mentioning Tipperary. That wanna makes me hurl
But we've ruined this Baseball thread enough.
Come on Canada

Dont get me started on the Welsh Solo - they are the world champs at that sport followed closely behind (erm....) by the Kiwis!!! Jaysus weve started something now !!!
By the way - James took the bait - wasnt long - lets see Tipp go for 5 in a row now that there manager took a nose bleed when at the top!!!
-
The Game!
-
Yeah baby!!! The Texas Rangers just beat the Tampa bay Rays in 5th game of series , so it's time for Rangers vs New York Yankees on Friday.
-
I'm with Pete, glad to see the Rangers advancing and hope they beat the Yanks. Not just because I don't like the Yankees but because having Cliff Lee pitch against Roy Halladay in the World Series would be fantastic. Phils will win it all regardless of who they face, they're better than they were 2 years ago when they won.
-
Well as a Southern Yankees fan I am pulling for them but I have no problems pulling for Texas if they win. Honestly I am fine with anyone as long as it is not Boston nor Atlanta and since both are gone I will be fine with who ever wins as long as they are good games. Game 1 of San Fran and Philly will be sweet. Texas will be tough for sure if they bring their "A" game but I thought the Twins would be more of a challenge too. October baseball, nothing better

Great playoffs so far.
Last night we had a 5 run lead only to throw it away in the 8th, tonight we maintained the lead, so we are even at 1:1, Monday night we are at Yankee stadium, scary but we have Lee in rotation. Gonna be a doozy!
Go Rangers.

Yeah, we got no recognised rappers, unless vanilla Ice counts.
But we still will always be...

Rangers take game 4.
So Rangers are up 3 games to 1.
So far Rangers have scored 30 runs to Yankees 11.
Tomorrow could be all over...
Go Rangers!!
