Thea Render - Interactive Rendering
-
Yes, the new version is 1,2, and it's also the one that is optimised for Thea render.
Brilliant program, makes my life easier as I do tons of furniture prodvis stuff and the furniture normall comes in various materials and different wood options, now I only need to do one render and create the variations afterwards.
Major time saver, now I can get 5 products to the client in the time of doing one, saving them money while making me more valuable for future work.

It's finally out!
I guess purchasing it gets you the 1.2 - doesn't specifically state it on their website.
Don't forget promotional prize at Thea site (for Thea users).

Thanks guys!

Due to the good things said about it by SOLO (I am a fan of his fine rendering work), I downloaded TheaRender yesterday and activated it today. I also downloaded SUplugin. Both activated with no problems.
I looked at a few videos on youtube then tried to use the new program. However, I am having problems.
After opening SketchUp and then the Thea exporter tool, I click the materials tab then I click on a material on an object I have created to test the system. The material is transferred to the Export Tool. When I click it a second time, the Materials Lab opens and the material opens in the preview as I expected. Unfortunately, when I hover my cursor over sketchUp, the cursor starts spinning indicating that some function is taking place in the background. I wait for it to stop but it does not. When I click the program in an attempt to have it stop spinning, SU freezes and I get an error message indicating “the SketchUp application is not responding” and my only option is to close the program. I uninstalled and reinstalled several times in case there had been a problem there. I tried to use several diff. objects in case that was the problem but no luck there.
I still have the problem. I am a computer novice so I have no idea what to do next, so I turn to all of you.
I am working with SketchUp Pro 8 and the details of the computer I am working on are as follows:
Dell: XPS 17
Operating System: Windows 7 Professional, 64-Bit
Processor: Intel Core i7-2720QM processor 2.20 GHz with TurboBoost 2.0 up to 3.30 GHz
Memory: 8GB Shared Dual Channel DDR3 Memory
Video Card: NVIDIA GeForce GT 555M 3GB graphics with Optimus
Hard Drive: 1.0TB 500GB 7.2k HDD x 2Can anyone help me?

Do you have the new exporter?
-
If you close the material editor normal service will resume. This happens on my system too.
So apply material in SU
click exporter
Double click material
Assign Thea material
Close material editor -

Yes, I expect so. I assume what you are speaking of is an exporter related to Thea. It comes with the SUplugin doesn't it? I downloaded Thea v1.1 and the SUplugin yesterday. I had nothing before that. If your speaking of an SU exporter, I should be up to date on that as well. I loaded a new copy of Pro 8 about 2 weeks ago.

I think I am missing something. True if I do as you say, SketchUp remains open and operating correctly. Also the new material is set in the exporter. However, it is not on my drawing. How do I get it there?

Texturing in SU and Thea are separately handled but Thea is influenced my mapping in SU. You won't see textures from Thea appearing in SU after applying them in the Editor. Textures in SU are placeholders for textures in Thea
-
OK Rich, I think I'v got it. When I modify the material in Thea it is not shown in sketchup but it will be visable when I import it into Thea for additional work or final render. Right? That will minimize the problem. Only negative is I won't see the model in SU as it will finaly look.
Thanks for your help. Now if we can just eliminate the initial problem, we will have all of what we want.

Solo, after your last comment, I found that SU the new "SketchUp Web Exporter (Beta)". I have installed it, however it does not have any noticeable effect on the materials problem. I think Rich O'Brian has it right in his answers below.
Thank you both for taking the time to address the problem for me.

The thing is I do not set my textures up in the Thea exporter, I export my SU scene and do all my materials in Thea studio.
-
Douglas, have a look at this topic in the Thea forums. It explains it quite straightforward IMO.

There is no update for the road map at the moment. But like earlier stated, material db and GPU rendering are on the way. Those will be done during 1.x version... probably sooner than later - no exact dates. AutoCAD Exporter Plugin is on the way.

Thea Render Technology Preview - Adaptive AMC
The introduction of a new powerful method (called Adaptive AMC) into IR. This method, that could be thought as the biased analog of TR2, has the ability to resolve difficult lighting conditions, SSS and medium scattering and still give interactive feedback.
We have recorded here a video showing all these improvements. The architectural scene used as our test case is courtesy of Davis Carter Scott, Inc. (kindly offered for our internal testing). Naturally there are some workflow improvements with the next release, maybe one can spot those too[flash=854,480:ovbowqdv]http://www.youtube.com/v/Q7DldMuwbIM[/flash:ovbowqdv]
