Sketchup and frustration
-
Well, recently I had the contents menu drop out the Unlock function. It didn’t even show up in the Edit section of the menus, I mean it wasn’t in the edit menu even grayed out. unlocked was not an option in the contents or edit menu when I picked a lock group.
So I had a group locked, and couldn’t unlock. Fortunately it came back after I shut down the computer and restarted.
But, damn couldn’t someone at Google figure out why the contents menu drops out. Right now I have the plugin, Drop and Drop at Intersection still grayed out. I go though shutting down and restarting maybe 5 to 10 times a day. It would be more, but I don’t shut down unless I really need to access a particular plugin.
And could there be some way, that someone at Sketchup, certify that a plugin is written in such way that it "should not", (not looking for a guarantee) interfere with Sketchup. So there could be a list of certified plugins and a plugin writer could lists his/her plugin as being certified as not destructive.
Oh, never mind, that would require actually caring about your product.
Frustrated and damn annoyed.
And onto another subject. I have TubroCAD 17, DoubleCAD2,and ViaCAD 6, all three will open a Sketchup file. But, darn if the drawing is usable after opening.
I export all my Sketchup files as 2D CAD files, for making a set off fabrication drawings. Does anyone, have a work flow where they open up a Sketchup file into another CAD program, not a rendering program, and actually get some use from the process?
To me, it seems to be just a waste of time trying to use raw Sketchup files in another CAD program.
Lighter note.
Darn if I wasn't making a living off of Sketchup, I wouldn't even bother with this program again.
Ken, peeved in SC
PS, Thanks to all you plugin writer, if it wasn't for you, I would actually have to show up in the office more than once every 6 months.
Not so peeved now, writing this helped me to settle down.
Again thanks to this forum and the help it provides.

I can quite confidently say that would be a very wasteful exercise. Plugin authors themselves have a hard enough time getting their plugins working properly and they know the code like the back of their hand. For somebody unfamiliar with the code to try dissect even a moderately complex plugin would take an age.
A minor point though, i agree with the main jist that the greying out bug is extremely annoying.

I fail to see how simple ruby plugin could remove lock/unlock from your context or edit menus... It's hard enough to do anything to a menu with the API as it is !
The 'Entity Info' window also gives access to the 'Locked' function via a tick-box... is this still there ?
Sounds like a flaky SUp installation !
This 'graying-out' bug is getting ridiculous and Google must address it asap... -
sketchup and vectorworks work very well together. skp files are imported into VW smoothly.

The Unlock function was not available in the context or edit menu. Not even grayed out. It did not come back until I shut down the computer and restarted.

KenOK, I understand that, BUT when it's 'gone' from those locations is 'Locked' tickbox still available in the Entity Info Window [in its expanded format] ?
Or has the function simply vanished ? This suggests a corrupted SUp installation not a Script problem to me...
