Mesh blocks do not display properly...?
-
My problem is with objects in Model Space. The blocks look fine when rendered, but after loading a Kohler toiler component, the polymesh (?) objects have no detail in my Model. They look like colored (bone I selected) blobs on screen with no detail. I tried all the face/edge setting, but no luck.
Anyone else had this problem or solution suggestions???

Please give us a bit more - details of where you got this object from, what format is it in etc?
Can we see it etc... -
Both were SKP imported from 3D Whse:
One was a whirlpool/jacuzzi tub which was visually fine in Model.
The other was a toilet from the Kohler library in 3D Whse.
After placing the Kohler toilet in my model I noticed it had no "definition" to the surfaces. Tried modify component, explode, etc... but no luck so I deleted it. Not sure when, but a short time later I noticed my tub was visualizing the same way as the Kohler toilet did...just "Bone Colored" with no depth? Tried render to see if it would correct, but no luck.

I've looked at these and they are made in weird ways...
They are very faceted, with some overlapping and reversed faces, edges 'hidden' - even have many 'edges' that won't show in any type of view - including Hidden Geometry 'on' because edges are 'off' in the style - I'm at a loss to see why they are so rubbish... They are just made badly ???
Can anyone else offer ideas... -
Can you give a link?

Here is a link to the Kohler toilet. Maybe something in the conversion they did from AutoCad (which I primarily use) .DWG to .SKP.

Hm. I downloaded both. Exploded them (the toilet was 3 levels deeply nested) and made a component from each. Had a look with hidden geometry on (edges are disabled in styles BTW) but have not found any weird issues yet.
I cannot even see those weird edges that TIG mentions. Could you make a screenshot of what to look at/for, TIG?

Can't figure out how to lod the pic's into message. Tried 4 times & keeps giving the 1st uplad in preview???
Maybe I don't fully understand Styles in relation to my Model?
-
The examples linked are OK - although if you do change the style to show edges and switch hidden geometry 'on' then you can see that what should be symmetrical forms aren't as the mesh is not 'mirrored'...
In the initial absence of a link the components that I tried were 'baths' and these had 'double-skinned' "hulls", with some overlapping facets and localized reversed faces etc hiding edges and without edges 'on' you can't orient them etc - it looks like a lot of these are not perfectly made, but then they are 'free' -
Don't give me too hard a time on my model, my primary use is AutoCad & I'm trying to learn how to use SketckUp
The toilet in the ScreenShots are NOT the Kohler discussed earlier. Notice the tub, it was fine for several days until I decided to try what I thought would be a better .SKP toilet drawing in my Model. I have tried changing every "Face/Edge" combination possible to get my tub to view properly in Model Space again??

Yeah I tried using some of those models awhile ago, they were a mess especially the tubs. I ended up going to the Kohler site and downloading the plan, front, and side dwgs of what I needed and modeled them myself, it was quicker. The same can be said for the GE appliance collection in the warehouse.

Yeah, that's indeed a mess. And imagine the case when you simply do not understand why these objects do not render properly - or in some renderers they take ages.
-
ScreenShot of Model after Kohler toilet insert, which I deleted from Model after the tub lost detail.
-
Render of the Model with "problem" tub shows detail as it used to in Model Space??
-
Can you post the skp?

Here is the SKP file, do you need SKB too?Master Bath_New_2.zip

The shadows are hiding the tub details, if you turn shadows off you will see the tub again. You can unhide some of the edges, then the details will show even with shadows on. I just did the top rim. I also purged your model and the size was cut in half, still at 3mb it's too big for this type of model. That's another bad thing about downloading these types of models from the warehouse, they just aren't modeled efficiently.

Thanks Mike...could have sworn the "Shadows ON" worked OK for viewing the tub in Model Space before, but apparently not. Appreciate the fix for my annoying problem
