Brilliant job Pixero! The interactivity Unity provides for project visualization is really interesting and fun. Very advanced, although I wish it had a softer camera movement like LightUp has. How Do your customers react? Bet they are freaking out...

Btw, one question plase: is Unity capable of exporting to an executional file format? I have tested a CAD-software called PYTHA last year, and was really fond of its strength in visualization (additional module called Radio-Lab) - especially that you can create an .exe file which your customer can open and walk through without downloading or installing a viewer or anything. (there are many more features like index creation for guided tours, animation, audio data, video textures, et cetera... workflow with SU via 3DS quite smooth)

With the new Beast lightmapping Unity is getting more and more interesting for me... how in heaven can I keep pace with all these powerful innovations? (a friend recently said that one lifetime is not enough for a 3D-artists' wishlist πŸ˜† )

          cheers

Thanks, the customers have liked it very much so far.
Unity can export to either a Windows exe file or a OSX app or a website.
There is also Unity versions that can export to Iphone/Ipad and the different game consoles.

Oh, that is good news, thanks for the information! Does the free version have the .exe export feature also? I could not find it in the license comparison chart...
How did you find learning Unity compared to learning SU?
(plz forgive my curiosity, i only have one lifetime πŸ˜„ )

Great news. Excellent work Pixero, I hope we can have the opportunity to learn from you! β˜€
I tried the SketchUp>>LightUp>>Unity workflow before and I was impressed, but I had trouble with my complex SU models (I tend to overdo things..). Since I'm officially done with my university study I'll definitely mess around with Unity again!

By the way, has anyone tried out PlayUp's new Unity exporter (http://playuptools.blogspot.com/2010/04/exporting-to-unity-3d-now-available.html)? It seems like a quick way to export stuff from SU>>Unity.

I'm looking forward to beast πŸ˜„ As far as I know, it's going to be included in the free version, except for a couple little features.

Could you try this almost free Tool. It is a tool for exporting Sketchup models into Unity3D. It seems to be easy way to get Sketchup models into Unity3D. Anyway, I had some problems when using it and therefore I would like to know if I am doing something wrong. Please let me know if you get it working. The author of the tool seems to be really helpful when having problems.

Here are some screenshots that I have made with free version of Unity3D for landscape modeling (golf course). Basically I have created the terrain model and splatmaps for texturing terrain in Sketchup. The rest is pretty much created in Unity. The next phase would be to bring some of the buildings that I have modeled with Sketchup into the model.

I think that Unity has improved quite a lot recently. In Unity 4.0 the free version also includes real time shadows for one light source (sun).
