Disabling snap points... my dream.

You can't turn off inference snapping but you could take care of your second dream by turning off Enable Length snapping under Window>Model Info>Units.

Would be nice as a option to select off when tracing an outline around a image.

Dave R... ok, that wasn't what I meant. It's kind of difficult to explain succinctly.
Say you have one line. And then another line right after it in going in the same direction. Physically they can be replaced by a longer line equal to the length of the two shorter lines. Sometimes I make these line breaks in my program. I don't want Sketchup doing inference-snapping on the line segments some of the time.

You can of course remove the break. The weld plugin would do that. Also if two lines are themselves in a straight line, constructing and then erasing a small line at the break, will "heal" the break.

You may want to trty the FreeHand tool of ToolsOnSurface.
It includes a polyline draw tool without inference (working on surface or without surface). You may however punctually use inferences if you need to.Fredo

I am watching with interest. Have the same problem tracing stations of a hull. I had great hopes by downloading the splines, but those snap points are still present. Someone has posted the model of the Titanic I wonder how he has overcome this problem. Ship and boat lines are not french curves, there must be a solution, the freehand is not the solution.

Agreed. I'm wondering if you have a mouse with a scroll wheel on it? If not, go get one. Its an absolute must have for working in SketchUp.

I agree with Chis, the scroll wheel is very useful to zoom in/out. However, to work faster and more efficiently, in combination with the scroll wheel, you should buy a Space Navigator/3D mouse by 3D Connexion. http://www.3dconnexion.com/
I use the 3D mouse everyday and would not imagine modeling in Sketchup without it. This is a really good investment if you use Sketchup all t he time and have deadlines.

Well. guess what some have a scroll mouse. I don't like to make smart comments however have you traced curved lines in 2 mm increments try for yourself even at a large scale the jumping of the lines are very annoying.If I have overlooked anything correct me. I think the comment about the scroll mouse was a valid comment but the person who has asked that question first sounded like he knows what he is doing.

Has anyone found a way to have certain models not affected by inference-snapping?
I'm finding a couple situations where I wish the inference-snapping would ignore a model in the scene. For example, I have a large sub-divided plane and I'm trying to extrude a cube in the foreground, the motion keeps snapping at sub-division way off in the background.
