Ipad

you've not been reading the live blog over at Gizmodo then
1ghz A4 custom chip
- Wifi - EDIT seems it does have 3G after all.
runs iphone apps in a iphone sized window in the middle of the screen or in doubled pixel mode
claimed 10 hour battery life - for the chip, no data on that plus the screen wifi
no camera.
ppl are already writing it off as nothing but an enlarged Itouch.

no 3G - Wifi only
not true
before that image, they were saying at Giz no 3G

only god if you can run sketchup on it.
Otherwise I'll call it an iGimmick.
Oh and you have to buy optional keyboard stand and leather stand to make it have any sense.
And I just KNOW every smart ass in Italy is going to buy it.

I like what I see so far.
My wife wanted a Kindle2, I suggested she wait for the Apple surprise (I was hoping for something else, like maybe moving from AT&T to Verizon)
Looks like my wife wins this round.

Khai, you obviously need to watch the lecture by Lawrence Krauss that Remus posted....

Ever notice how stupid people always have comments, while smart ones wait, try, ponder, before making remarks?

I find this new Apple technology quite disappointing.
Indeed like others I was hoping for an innovative small form-factor net-tablet. On the pro and plus-side, no question it's interesting - size, keyboard-docking & Bluetooth are all good. OTOH, its has closed and limited computational capabilities, no multitasking and despite an over-sized iPhone/Touch it offers no support for 'regular' Mac OSX apps. Bottom line for me, I am definitely left wanting and hoping for iPad v. 2.
Cheers,
. Diego .

Been looking to seeing this and I'm not disappointed so far. Superb price range and choice.
Alot of bang for your buck if you ask me.
But one major issue....
-
The problem is most folk had high expectations of a new gadget to replace an old one, this is not to replace the ipod, iphone, imac, etc. This is to kill the Kindle, this is for casual internet browsers, subscription readers (watch how magazines and newspapers turn internet subscription based now), Kindle was black and white, this is color.
The Ipad is great IMO, for what it's intended for, wanna a graphics tablet? then get a Wacom Clique. -
Watch how Itunes will now offers Wired magazine, Cosmopolitan, Wall street journal, etc This will do for pulp media what it did for cd's.
-
If it ain't broken, don't try to fix it ...

Methinks Apple's gonna get rich from repairing dropped Ipads

i dunno, one of the main things this tablet is aimed at is our traditional paper_medium content delivery.. you gotta admit that the internet pretty much broke that setup
-
Really, an A4 sized touch screen is good enough.
BUT WHY A HUGE IPOD?!?!?!?!

I agree and that's been historically a fine definition for innovation or for any or most new technologies. If your expectations are met, you're of course welcome to it - I'm happy for you man! Mine weren't: the or my problem is I was hoping Apple would address innovation other than it did. The iPad is neither a net-book (in the sense that it doesn't have comparable computational capabilities of the likes of an Asus, HP, or Dell) or a tablet (despite it's touch-functions).
The point remains - Apple has not addressed that niche- they've not yet developed a technology that fills the fine sweet spot between the input/display/comm and then-some capabilities of the iPhone/Touch and the portability and processing powers of a laptop. The iPad is indeed a fine color media-player/comm device but it remains limited (still, IMO) as a tablet-computer. Plus, I'm sure you agree, a Cintiq is a display/input device that requires to be tethered to a computer; these are not comparable technologies. Too bad, isn't it? As I said, I hope for version 2.
Cheers,
. Diego .

BUT WHY A HUGE IPOD?!?!?!?!
You know, the one thing that really annoys me about my iPhone, is that the screen is too small. But if it were any larger, it would be impractical as a phone. But then again, with 3G, I could still communicate with the iPad, in say a shoulder bag, via a bluetooth earphone, using Skype or AIM. Problem solved! When I first bought my iPod Touch (it was secondhand when I got it- my wife now has that), I went into the Apple store in Birmingham, and told them that if only the screen was three times bigger, the Touch would be 300x better. I agree with Pete, the iPad is going to do really well- especially at that price.
PS, my next PC will still be a Mac Mini. But I'll get an iPad next (and a Leica M9!!)

What gets me is the knee jerk reaction from everyone, all the blogs are going and it's mostly negative...
Just breaking is "Apple has launched its own bookstore called iBookstore" never saw this coming
So... the ipad is a better Kindle, that's all.
Apple noticed how well the Kindle was doing, so they made a better one.
They still sticking with AT&T sadly.
So it's all about expectation, nope Apple did not reinvent the wheel, just upped the Kindle and other e-readers.
