Story
Hi.
I'm Tomas Pettersson, and I created this application for my own enjoyment over the past six months (starting at the end of November 2009). This is an unpaid hobby project, but it has essentially consumed all my waking time during this period.
I don't want to demand any payment for the application, but of course I will appreciate a donation if you feel like it is valuable to you. Take a moment to consider what it would be worth in your particular case.
A pizza? A movie ticket? A day's salary? Please do not consider donations as funding for future development. I will most likely take some more time to fix problems and improve various aspects, but I do not view this as my career. You can't "buy more features" (though I won't stop you from trying).
Sculptris will stay small and focused at its main task, which is sculpting and painting models. There is no point in expanding it to cover all the things advanced users can do in ZBrush, Blender, Maya and all the other big shot apps.
Right now, I am leaving for a month's vacation across Europe. Feel free to send me email (drpetter@gmail.com), but please don't expect an immediate response. There should be plenty of people on the forum to help you out with specific questions regarding use and perhaps even some technical details.

Impressive simplicity of use !
-
Indeed it is. Ive played around with it for a few mins and its incredibly fast and intuitive. If only i could sculpt id have probably made something half decent by now!
The texturing tools are also very cool. You can basically just paint straight on to the model: its awesome.

Has anyone had any problems importing an obj made in SU? I tried one simple model and Sculptris said that there were faces with more then 3 edges. I then disected all the faces in SU so that every face was a triangle. That obj just crashed Sculptris.
-
My quick test seemed to work ok. Could you post the dodgy file?

My error. Just opened it up again in SU. I thought I'd deleted all the internal faces that were created when I was triangulating the model in SU, but I'd actually left 2 faces inside. I've deleted those faces and it now opens ok in Sculptris.

Hi,
I find this program very intuitive compared to Zbrush. I think this could be my standard program for organic shapes.
I have tried to bring some of these models with the OBJ importer into Sketchup but it doesn't work for me.
Than I have converted it to 3ds files and they were imported correctly.
Vice versa i had the same problem with the import of sketchup OBJ files into Sculptris. I don't know how to solve it.Attached the file i want to import into Sculptris. But all in all, this is a promising program.

Remus kindly made this for me http://forums.sketchucation.com/viewtopic.php?f=323&t=26620 which will check for N-Gons..
I think we should ask him if he can get it to highlight them. then we can simply fix them ready for export to Sculptris... -
Hi khai,
I would be very happy if Remus would do this.

Probably easier to just use this: http://forums.sketchucation.com/viewtopic.php?p=175613#p175613
My ruby skills are a little rusty as well

uuugh noooooo
I'll just manually check for the Ngons.... -

Very interesting find, Pilou, thanks!
I have not tried yet but it seems there could be a smooth workflow with SU itself. What do you guys think, should we move the topic to the extensions forum? After all, it seems to be SU related as far as I can tell.
-
It's a mini "Zbrush", so some organic and result has many triangles
-
Yep, functions quite a bit like zbrush, obviously without the complexity or toolset. I found it easier to use though. Good fun, and it works quite well for what it is.
-
Hi Remus,
I used the triangulate Faces by selection. But the N-Gon Check says there are still N-Gons in the model. What can i do else?
Karl

I think your going to be doing some cleanup there...!
-
Hi,
i used the new N-Gone Check. In my Wikinger.skp it counted 12567 N-Gons. I tried to triangulate the model but without success.
