I would like to have a an option to be able to select only faces, only edges or only vertices. For example, let's use a simple cube. I just want to select all its 12 edges without the faces. What I do now is selecting everything, then hold down Shift and click on the faces one by one to remove them from the selection. Imagine the model has hundreds of faces, that will be time consuming. I want to be able to do it by just two clicks, like right click on the model (or click on a plugin) then chose "select edges (or faces) only".

This option of selecting faces and edges will be very useful when used with the Line2tubes tool.

There are plugins out there that do that - you can easily make your own too... see here http://forums.sketchucation.com/viewtopic.php?p=209564#p209564 for 2 quick and simple tools...

You can move Vertices one at a time using the Move Tool, with nothing initially selected, and letting the inference take an end of an Edge = Vertex, and moving it to anew location...
The Sandbox Tool also does something similar but only on triangulated faces...

BTW if you go to wireframe mode, you can select only edges. Also, if you uncheck edges in your styles dialog, you can select only faces.

But of course, Selection toys and similar plugins are way cool.

1001bit has a vertex select and move plugin - http://www.1001bit.com/products/move_vertex.shtml, although it could be achieved with the standard move tool.

Also Krill has a new plugin to put a control point (guide point) at each vertex which could then be selected and manipulated in both a linear and curved fashion. http://forums.sketchucation.com/viewtopic.php?f=323&t=22709
