Need Sketchup Script, Can Someone Help?
-
I am a framing contractor. I draw the models of our houses into Sketchup, and essentially virtually build the house. I place every piece of wood and hardware in the drawing. The wood and steel members that I use are components. I make copies of the components when I do the drafting to speed up my drafting process. I then group sections of walls into groups, and make cultists and material orders off of those grouped walls.
I then have to manually assign a piece number for every piece of wood. For example in Wall 20, I number the Studs 1-10. So the piece number is W20S1,W20S2, ect.As far as the labeling goes the wall number is always first. Followed by:
P - Plate
B - Beam
S - Studs
BL - Block
H - HardwareThen the number of the paticular item.
I need a plug-in/Ruby Script that will make all the components unique. Then I want to be able to automatically, or manually but easily, number the pieces. Then when i generate the report on the wall i will be able to see all the piece numbers and their respective length

Sounds do-able. Why dont you send jim or perhaps Chris Fullmer a PM and see what they think? Both very knowledgeable in matters concerning ruby

Search for CutList and ComponentReporter++
What you want is quite doable, needs some thought on the actual naming, reporting etc...
I suggest you post in the Plugins Forum [here] with a '[Request]' prefix - you're likely to get a better response...
