Applying Material to a layer
-
Hi
I've been trying to apply a material to a layer and it doesnt seem to work.
I import drawings from vectorworks and have objects on layers.. the glass for my windows are on a particular which i want to texture..
is there a plugin required for this operation? or can be done with the existing sketchup tools..
sorry if my question seems broken up.. im kinda in a rush.. cheers

You just click the swatch next to the layer and it brings up the same material editor that you have in the material browser. You can then assign a different colour to the layer or select an image.
You do need to switch to colour by layer mode, before you can see it, though. -
TIG, that sounds like a neat plugin, You import, and rewrite the dxf. I will have to look at and study your code. Thanks.

I wrote a tool [DXFlayercols.rb - should be on the ruby forum somewhere...] that works if the import was a DXF you reimport the DXF with the tool and it assigns the original CAD color to the layer [within limits]. It can't import images/textures but at least the colors are correct and you can manually change the layer color to include a texture to suit

If you're wanting to apply a certain material to everything on a certain layer then
turn off all other layers
select all
apply material
turn other layers back on
