What does your nickname mean, and why do you use it?
-
Interestig topic.
When (back in the 90's) we set up the first computer networks at the (Ancient) History department, we named the computers. There was a Sulla and there was a Gaius (for the beginning). I used to work on Gaius most of the times.
Then came this "social networking" thingie. Not necessarily just professional forums like this one but everywhere. Do you think Gaius (as a nick) is freeanywhere? Haha...
But I have had luck with Gaieus (well, most of the times) so far.Plus there was a certain "personal" reason, too, but in the lack of the consent of the concerned party, I would not wish to reveal the details.
(But don't rush and take it where "Gaieus" is still available)

Now it's around the worldYours was one of those avatars i found interesting....that face has something special to it, funny and very weird at the same time.

My nickname is actually my real name , nothing special.I sometimes use on other forums Marian87 and Marian1987. I used to have a fondness for the nickname Snake....good luck trying to get that nick now. An interesting fact is that in most other languages Marian is a girl's name and it can create some....weird situations. And from what i know, Marian means <something belonging to the Virgin Mary> i'm not very certain of that.

Edit: The Avatar Story
Well, it's just my face as you probably have guessed. I don't usually look good in pictures, especially ones made by me with the camera in front of my face, but this one was unusually acceptable.
It was made in may 2009 in Cheile Turzii (Turda's Gorge).
Here's a more telling photo:P

I'm called a lot of things, some not so nice but on the original @Last Forums I logged in one morning to discover that some of the guys were calling me Mayor Mike! The previous night / day, Brad Schell had 'bestowed' the title, Mayor of the SketchUp Forums on me for a little turn I did for a student that could not afford a student license in South America. The name has stuck with the SU Old Hands.
-
being mayor doesn't give you the right to have an avatar that makes me feel sick.
oh wait, i guess it does!

-
Oh my goodness - better not mess with Panga!
-
Frederik - is my second "first name"...
I chose Frederik because I know in many countries Kim is often a female name (although it's also used as a male name in the same countries) and to avoid any confusions (misunderstandings), I decided to use Frederik... -
kim,
you forgot to explain your avatar! afraid of being sued for child abuse?
-
my nickname is, you guessed, my given name. not a lot of creativity there...
as for my avatar, it is a good picture of me taken by a student during a lecture. that is, good compared to the horrible results one gets when posing for a photograph.
-
Well Dale is my first name. Although it can be male or female, in this case "it's a boy"
The avatar is a photo of a painted wood carving I did taken from a photo in front of my house. It's a raven on the cliffs edge with a small pocket cruise ship on the water below. -
