[Plugin] SectionCutFace
-
TIG,
First......I am very grateful for all of the plug ins you create and maintain for the community!I do not use many plug ins myself.......but one I have used for many years now is the section cut face.
I see you have made some nice changes to this so I downloaded and installed V6.0 today.
Surprisingly I immediately got a bug splat after install, and sent the report in.
MS Win7Pro
64-bit OS
Intel i3-2100CPU 3.1GHz
8.0 GB ramI have since reinstalled V4.4
Just thought you should know.....not sure what the cause could be.
Thank lots,
Charlie -
What is your SUp version ?
No error messages [e.g. in Ruby Console] ?
At what point does it splat ?
On opening the tool or on OK ?
Does it spat on all permutations of the options ??How did you install the plugin ?
From its RBZ ?
Can you delete all "SectionCutFace" files and its subfolder in the Plugins folder [manually] and then reinstall and restart and see what happens...I assume an earlier version of the plugin work OK...
Do you have many other plugins installed ?
-
Thanks for the update! Everything seems to work fine now. Any info on what was causing the faces to not update properly? I love the new visibility options btw.

Update:
It appears removing Pipe Along Path V 2.2 20141112 stops the BugSplat on launch described below]@tig said:

Splat was/is immediate on launch of SU.@tig said:
How did you install the plugin ?
From its RBZ ?Initially I downloaded .rbz to desktop and through SU.....window....preferences....extensions....install(ed) extension.......rbz
Note:I did not uninstall SCF V4.4 prior either. (figured it would just overwrite)SU did not Bugsplat at this point, however, the options available were the same as in SCF V4.4 and for this reason I closed and re-launched SU.....and immediate Splat.
I Then tried manual install by renaming the .rbz to .zip and deleted SCF folder and SCF ruby file from the 2016 plugins folder, and dragged the contents of the .zip to 2016 plugins folder........launch produced same splat.

I did exactly that after second splat, and splat on launch again.

Yes, manual reinstall of SCF V4.4 works fine as before.

Maybe five or six, not on that machine right this moment.....will have to report back.
I can try to reproduce later today if you think it will be helpful, and I do recall seeing some text in the bugsplat window that may be helpful for you to see?
Thank You!!

There should be not connection with PipeAlongPath and SectionCutFace - except that I wrote both!
Have you tried re-installing the newest version of PAP [v2.2]
I'll do some more digging though...

I did see that.....and I am very appreciative for you having written them....especially since I use very few and found yours to be very helpful to me.(think you wrote 3 out of the six I use)

I have, and unfortunately the same Bugsplat returns.

Please don't spend much time on it for me, I can continue using SCF V4.4 should I need PAP as well.
Thank you,
Charlie

Plugin looks great but once I have created the section cut face I can't Dimension or measure even in layout measurements won't snap to points is there a fix for this
-
Section cut lines are not edges that dimension tools in SketchUp or LayOut can snap to. You could make the edges of the section cut face visible in the UI and dimension to the edges of the face.

Edge detection in sketchup and layout works for me if I enable visible edges. But I'll have to hide the section cuts via layers instead.

i dont understand this plugin, i was expected to close the solid and get as the final result the solid cuted. for example, i made a 3d model of a house, then i cut and use the sectioncutface and then i would like to render that solid cut but i cant...
sorry for me english
-
Olá Rui!
You can render the solid cut if you use a supported renderer that works with sketchup sections.
I work with Thea that can do it.
-
A few renders will keep section-plane cuts visible in their output.
The ones I know of are Thea and Twilight.
SU Podium has an add-on tool which does something similar, but by making a copy of the model and and then using two operations, much like SectionCutFace AND Zorro2, to add the face, and then cut and delete the rest of the model, you can then render that.
You can mimic that - make a copy of your model - use SectionCutFace to add the face, then use Zorro2 to cut the model at the same section-plane, render that...
Remember to work on a copy, because it does cut up and delete chunks of your model ! -

The best section plugin I have ever found! Thx TIG.

Hi TIG,
I am too new to have PM privileges yet, is it still possible to get the ruby script files for SectionCutFace, I am still using SketchUp Pro version 8.
Progressing_Slowly.
-
Hi, I cannot PM yet as I am a new member, but I wanted to get the additional files needed to run this in Pro Version 8.
I have downloaded Sketchup Make to test, and it works great, just want to keep with my version of Pro 8 for now as everything runs so smoothly on it.
-
SectionCutFace should work on all currently available versions of SketchUp.
Obviously the newer versions are recommended, and be aware that v8 is no longer supported by Trimble, and v2013 will go that way shortly - they already have limited access to 3dWH and EWH pages...It is available in the SketchUcation PluginStore - download its RBZ and install using SketchUp's Preferences > Extensions > Install Extension... button, alternatively install the SketchUcation ExtensionStore³ and that allows you to install anything available in the PluginStore automatically from within SketchUp.
-
Hi TIG!
I've installed sectioncutface on my SUP 2016, but then appeared this error:
Error Loading File C:/Users/(...)/AppData/Roaming/SketchUp/SketchUp 2016/SketchUp/Plugins/SectionCutFace/SectionCutFace_start.rbs
Failed to read RBE/RBS file.Do you have a clue about solving this problem?
Thanks!!!
-
Does that RBS file actually exist?
How did you install it from the downloaded RBZ ?
Use SketchUp's Window > Preferences > Extensions > Install Extension... button.
Or AutoInstall it from within SketchUp itself, using the SketchUcation ExtensionStore³ toolset... -
