Tools-----Paintbucket?
-
Isn't this available on the Google Sketchup Download page as a link called Bonus Packs? Keep drilling down. There's a big fat file of bonus stuff-- I wanna say about 12mB.
Here: http://sketchup.google.com/download/bonuspacks.html
They say they have moved it to the 3d warehouse, however. -
Yeah but at the botom, you can follow a link to the SU 6 bonus packs you can download and install (except you will need to change the destination folder) although they are all the component libraries and no materials.
-
So I still have no answer where to get the tools paintbucket surfaces etc
they are not in 6, 6 has the same even in the PRO version that 7 doesare they in the free version of 6?
This really is a big pain, when i reformatted , i used to download the sketchup current free version even, the component library link was there, and it installed in a flash, and the tools..paintbucket was there toonow even in the "PRO" Versions, they all suck, the component library has been moved to warehouse...........which is impossible to download or you get about 10 useless components, or a sample...........and the paintbucket is a sucky stripped down version
now you would think that the trial versions of the "PRO" Would be loaded with everything from the start, but they suck just as bad as the free versions
all in all pathetic

As I see it you have/had v6 which has lots more materials for the paint-bucket tool ?
If so, then you need to copy all of the sub-folders/files in the v6 'Materials' folder into the 'Materials' folder in v7 - for a PC it's typically:
C:\Program Files\Google\Google SketchUp 6\Materials
and
C:\Program Files\Google\Google SketchUp 7\Materials
On a Mac the path varies - read the Help Docs...If you don't have these materials where have they gone ?
Find them...
If they are lost forever then download from the SUp site as recommended in earlier posts...Restart SUp to get additions etc...
-
I have versions 6 and 7
version 6 does NOT have lots more for the paintbucket tool
it has exactly the same stripped down version of this tool that 7 does, and both these are "pro" versionsso where are these tools we are supposed to transfer?

Even on Sketchup Pro 7 though, the Tools Paintbucket, seems to come with an extremely stripped down version from what I was easily able to access with even Sketchup 6 free version.
Why is this? and how to get the larger archive of choices like I had before
If you Still have that SU install (the one where you had a large choice of materials) you can move them across as TIG described. Apart from that all i can suggest is to make your own materials until the materials pack is released.

I give in - I've attached a zip file containing all the freely-available materials you crave for. Extract them into the desired SUp version's Materials-folder/sub-folders... Some might over-write the base set's... Use your judgement.
You can easily make your own materials from image files and then save them as libraries for use in other models...*
There are lots of other free ready made materials out there too... e.g. here: http://www.sketchucation.com/forums/scf/viewforum.php?f=40
Also remember that if you download a component or model [e.g. from 3D-warehouse] you can easily extract its materials into new .skm libraries for reuse in other models - read the manual* - 'Material Browser' - 'Save Library As'... for v6 it's: http://download.sketchup.com/OnlineDoc/gsu6_win/Content/F-Model_Settings_and_Managers/Settings-MatBrowser.htm?Highlight=saved|save|Save|saving|savings|Saving||library|Libraries|libraries|Library||
it's much the same method for v7.Happy painting...

Thanks TIG, i am trying to insert them into the appropriate folder after i download them..
upon looking in the folders, there appears to be only 10 choices in each of the subcategories in the zip file you loaded, example. stone......10 choices
this is the same number of choices i have now
when i had this before, the stone had like 40 choices
where is this archive to download
not to say your zip is not appreciated but it appears to be the same choices I have now, the limited 10 choices per category -
You download the "PRO" version of sketchup 7, you expect a fully functional 30 day trial to get you interested to buy the expensive 500 dollar version
what you get is no better than the free version, the Components library is not there, it has a bunch of cheap samples
same with the Pro version of 6
not only that, the paintbucket surfaces are not there, only 10 choices there as opposed to the fully stocked version which has about 40 choices for each surface
Pardon me for saying this , but whoever took over sketchup, has no clue how to market the thing, and taking out the component libraries and saying they moved them to the warehouse was a very dumb move.
All in all I have spent about 2 weeks trying to get the thing working, as I had the old FREE version working, with no luck. and that includes asking on the board for help.

Mack,
The Pro versions have different functionalities than being "pre-packed" with the bonus packs. As was suggested to you in another topic, download the bonus component libraries for SU 6 and install them into SU 7. Did you do that?
Note that these libraries are made to be a different downlo0ad because otherwise the installer could easily become at least double the size. What would be the reason? I for one prefer the existing way as I mostly don't need those components anyway (I am not n architect and even if I were, I would definitely not build US traffic signs into my model).
BTW the pro trial version is not a working version for 30 (idle) days but for 8 working hours.

They might have more functionality, the pro versions but what good are they without the component libraries"
Yes i downloaded the component library after you or someone else gave them to me and I somehow managed to get them somewhat working, in 7, but the interface is not user friendly, and it is difficult to navigate
i still never got the paintbucket to have the full choices, despite a few days of trying to find it and someone sending me the zip file, which was not much help
-
i did not purposely delete them, i reformatted and wiped the hard drive and that lost all the old installs
truly sad you have to go through so much pain in the butt just to get the components and surfaces nowadays, even with the pro versions

Just do what the rest of us do.
Scour the internet for pre made textures. We have links to many sites containing these right here at SCF.
Join Formfonts and download a fantastic collection of components and textures.
Make your own. There is no magic answer to help you fill your collection instantly. You have to put in the effort and create them. Most people here will have been building their libraries over years.

when you go to this formfonts, and download components and textures, what location do you download them to, on your hard drive.
I have no problem doing this if just told how to proceed, and thanks by the way for the informationops after looking, i guess that place you recommended charges almost 200 dollars a year for a membership,
I just do this when I am bored for a hobby, I am not a professional
too rich for my blood but thanks very much -
Mack, you spent $500 for SU and only use it as a hobby? why?
-
The main difference between the free and pro versions are that the pro has more export features, and comes with Layout.
What doesn't make sense is that Google removed the SU6 Materials Bonus Pack from their website before the bonus pack for 7 is available. How many months has it been now? How long does it take to assemble a materials pack?
-
I did not spend 500 on sketchup, i only downloaded the "pro" versions to see if they have the components in them, or the paintbucket surfaces........They dont
I have always used the free versions and been very happy with them, but now my opinion is the free and pro versions are extremely lame, without the surfaces and components so hard to find and download
If you saw some of my designs you might think i was a professional, but those took a LONG time to bang out, but i still saved them all
I thoroughly enjoy SU and puttering around with it designing my next house me and my wife want to build here in the Phils
-
does anyone have a zip file of the surfaces for paintbucket? the big archive with like 30 to 40 choices per surface
-
TIG already supplied the full texture pack. If you had more previously, then you got them somewhere else. You should not have deleted your previous version 6 install.
