I am having problems with rendering some trees with Vray. I am working on my portfolio that has to be presented at a job interview. Now I am desperately looking for realistic "Vray friendly" trees. If someone could help me out I would appreciate it very much.
Here is the problem I am experiencing.
      exported from within sketchup itself
      Same tree rendered with vray
I am working in SketchUp 6 with the latest trial of Vray 4 SU

        Hi Bob,

This is a problem with the clip mask / transparency mask in V-ray. I remember a disczssion about this issue in the "Extensions" forum and hope there will be people who can answer there (as I don't use V-ray) so I'll move your topic there.

Also, solo, in his garden collection thread, in the Gallery, addressed V-ray rendering, too.

V-Ray doesn't make use of the transparancy channel built into image files. You have to separate it manually, so you have a grayscale image where white is fully transparent, and black is opaque. Then you have to assign that to the Transparancy map in the diffuse layer of that material in V-Ray.

            Hey Thomthom
I read about transparency mapping in the manual but the instructions are to vague and incomplete.
Are you aware of any decent tutorials on this issue.

There are a couple of threads at the ASGVis forums. tHough I don't ahve a link right now. Will have to dig it up. Think there should be some here too.

By the way, what version of V-Ray for SketchUp do you use?

Here is a pretty clearly written tutorial for using clipmaps/transparencies in Vray in terms of trees and vegetation.
