Kerkythea render preset 19 MLT/31 passes @ 3 hours. Post process, tone mapping, color balance, some diffuse glow.
Thanks for the challenge kwistenbiebel. A beautifully done model to work with.

Threads like these are a great way to evaluate the different render engines using a standard model, obviously the render engine is only a part of a great render, the users skill with it is what makes a good renderer a great one.

I used IDX Renditioner for this one.

This looked too fun to pass up. Just to be different, I'll go vertical... with IDX Renditioner. Hazy lighting condition setting and a background image, no post.

Gave it a go with Vray for Max. I rendered with just Vray sun and HDRI for lighting. I also rendered an Ambient Occlusion output using this free plugin for Max - http://plugins.angstraum.at/vrayao/ In photoshop I then combined the AO with the raw rendered and set the AO to multiply. I used the alpha output to add a background behind the glass. In photoshop I did additional tweaking and exposure corrections including a high pass filter and slight bit of sharpening.
                Vray render - 8min 33sec
                AO render 47 seconds
                Post processing - 10 minutes

                Raw Render
                Ambient Occlusion Render

                Final after post processing
                B&W for fun

Richcat, what render engine did you use?

Looks like a First person shooter scene, put a gun barrel in foreground and it's Doom.

Vue 7, with volumetric lighting, the dust in sunlight is rendered using a noise filter in volumetric sunlight.

Nice Pete! Had a go with Vue 7 myself. Car is from Vue's object library. I used radiosity with the render settings on final. The background is an infinite procedural terrain.

                                @Earthmover,

The Ambient Occlusion render pass overlay is a common and very effective way to add randomness and crispyness to a render.
I am dying to have this for Vray for sketchup as well for a long time now.
It wouldn't be to hard for a Ruby master to code a AO renderer i guess.
I know AdamB is using AO as an option is his LightUp.
It would be cool to have a standalone AO render plug though.

Yes, the nice thing about the AO plugin that I use for Max is that it is just a one click solution. It will render out the AO pass without disturbing any of your Vray settings. As soon as you close the plugin, your right back where you left off. If someone could imitate this plugin for Vray for Sketchup that would be great.

On another note Kwist, have you picked out the next model for rendering yet? 😄 Seems as though this is turning into a fun and exciting way to practice rendering scenes you wouldn't necessarily have a chance to render in your daily work. I would be up for a nice exterior project next.

Wow Frederick, that is a really clean render. I like it a lot. Although I must say it is almost too clean and bright for a dingy old warehouse.

I made a little animation. Nothing fancy. The animation was rendered widescreen but both Vimeo as Youtube seem to crop it to 4:3 format.
