As a survey never can be a bad idea, I truely think this one is not really relevant.
One of the questions is to have a built-in render engine.
Off course not! We have all the High end render engines for that. Why would we want to go through a development cycle of several years while we already have the gems?Google, make your nifty little piece of software 'high poly' capable and think about the rest after that.
And another thing: a 'model appearance' survey? Where is the checkbox for FIXING THE SHADOW BUG !!!
Aaaargh! When was that raid on Boulder scheduled?

let's just find a way to sneek Carmaks Revearse into the code and only those who need to know the secret will know how to unlock it.

Good idea
Easter eggs in the SU code. -

I really hope that that doesn't happen. I'd rather that Google spend their budget by employing all the ruby programmers in the community.

Regarding the high poly support (or responsiveness when manipulating large models), I'm encouraged by this from the most recent SketchUpdate newsletter:-
"Even though we launched SketchUp 7 late last year, most of us are plugging away to make it even better – stay tuned for an update sometime in the next several weeks"
CraigD hinted at some stuff a while back (can't remember the post and too lazy to find it), which also makes me a little more relaxed about the issue.
I would also like to prod Google's collective memory about a facility to temporarily DISABLE THE %$*&£!§ INFERENCING ENGINE - PLEASE! This is driving me mad and I actually prefer the old inferencing instead.
-
Hey that sounds like good news Bigstick!
-
it could be a good thing to alert SCF members of every SKP survey. this way we good vote massively and have our opinions heard by them.

Thats probably the one that says 'improve shadow rendering.'

Hi Guys,
I'm afraid I got back on my hobby horse again.
In the additional comments, I said:

Fix the damn shadow "bug" that makes the animation capabilities of SketchUp useless.
What is the point of being able to create animations if you have to switch off shadows because of the awful flickering that occurs?
This has has been allowed to go on for far too long.
Google, stop being evil, and fix what is a terrible flaw in a great program. Will anyone listen?
I won't hold my breath.Regards

I understood from the latest SketchUpDate newsletter that a maintenance release is near.

Yep, those words definitely seem to refer to a maintenance release.

I think this survey is perfectly sensible. they just want to know how people think. lets hope most people agree with us, that rendering should remain a third party business. but I think it is the right think of Google to ask.
besides, I would really appreciate some development of native SketchUp graphics, like , yes, improving shadows (which could mean fixing the shadow bug as well as introducing some form of softer shadows and especially differentiation of shadows when hitting/being cast by transparent surfaces)
and their suggestion of having a multiple textures feature would be absolutely awesome (and has been asked for quite a lot in the past).
and something like roughness for transparent materials would be absolutely marvellous to create some sort of frosted glass effect (can definitely be done in real time, since windows does it).
and some way of introducing a simple glossiness to materials would be great as well (so that not all materials are dull and opaque but can have a little shine (e.g. car paint).
all these things would make SU output a lot nicer, without really entering the realm of rendering...

I second that.

What do you think guys I've been doing for the last two surveys?
Unfortunately I didn't alert SCF of the very first one - which pushed the resulting two surveys "aside" off the track it should've gone - but it was notmy fault.

you connect us to the world, Gaieus, and extend our horizon beyond the borders of the SCF
