Manhattan sketchup model
-
Will have a look.
-
nnnnghn...... This beast has a zillion triangles...Su consumes 1.35GB atm.
And the whole thing is slanted at an angle. Will take some work.
Edges: 1514167
Faces: 629920
Components: 1971 -
I'm still tidying up bordominc's version (thanks very much for that btw) - slow progress so far... so many reversed faces. Have tried to organise in C4D but with little success.
-
wow i cant believe you managed to import the file into sketchup!!
and its 1.35gb -
WEll,.. I imporetd it with inches as units, (or was it feets...?) so the whole model was about 300mm long... made it look really odd since SU don't handle really small numbers very well. So I started a new file and tried to import with units set to meters, but then I got an out of memory error. Will try again today witha freshly booted PC.
Mind you, it helps having 4GB RAM installed.
-
Tried to import with meter units... Out of memory. It built up to 1.7GB, then fell down to 400MB where it started buil.ding up again til 700MB where it ran out of memory.
I'll try with 3DS max first I think.
I belive the main problem is the terrain here. it got a very high subdivision and lots of detail. I want to try to remove the terrain and import without it.

Someone has got the manhattan sketchup file with the 6.4.112 version plz??? I can't open it..(7.0 version is required)
-
If anyone could recommend a good hosting site (zero pop-ups and no pron links preferable) I would be grateful.
-
Charlyboy, would it work for you if I uploaded a version 5 of the model, so you can load into 6.4.112?
I've completed the tidy up using this great workaround from Moderator Jim:
One technique I remember from here is to assign a shortcut to Reverse Faces, then select the PushPull tool because it does auto-select on hover. Then, hover the PushPull tool over each face and hit the shortcut key - it makes quick work of it.
I've retained 99% of the geometry and there is a bit of tri-tesselation left over but some style settings can alleviate these.
- just need to find to find a host site for the file...

Also that doesn't delete the file after a while (or when it hasn't been downloaded for a while).

http://manhattanairport.org/
manhattan airport project with this sketchup model! hahaha -
That site seem vaguely familiar, like there used to be something there.....I can't quite think of what it was though.
Seriously though, I'm sick to my stomach. I'm sorry to say it night zombie, but I hope your project crashes and burns. I'm currently under-educated about all the details of it, but that is my first gut reaction. I'm literally feeling a bit ill.

It's a joke project imo.
-
That would sure make me feel a lot better
-
wow so much hatred! i have nothing to do with this particular project.
i just found it online and they seem to have used the model i posted -
No hate from me i just stated my opinion...
-
Olmstead is rolling in his grave. . .with Laughter!!!
Seriously tho' it sure would help on the commute in from the Airport. Have you ever tried to come in from JFK or LaGuardia?? NIghtmare!!!
-
Hehe Night Zombie, my mistake all around. That caught me completely off guard. I figured it was a project you had made the model for, and it was a serious project, etc. Clearly, I fell for it hook line and sinker.
