I used to use Windows for Podium render plugin for Sketchup, but since the release of the plugin for Mac, I only use OSX Leopard.

I noticed that Windows however, previews the Sketchup file so that you can see what the content of the model is before you open it!

This would be INFINITELY helpful in OSX too, so how can I do this? There must be a way, I heard that ANY app can be added to quicklook??? (I really need this)

    Thanks

      Hi, geomp,

Quick Look support is not available in SketchUp 7.0

While it is theoretically possible to display any file type in Quick Look, to do so requires the application developer to create a plugin using the Quick Look API that essentially teaches Finder how to display .skp files.

We are aware of users' desire to do this, but are sorry to say that SketchUp does not support the feature at this time.

Hmm, thanks for your post AndrewS, BTW I'm using Sketchup 6 but I suppose Quick Look can't display those files either, I hope that someone writes a plugin soon, I have SO many sketchup files, I can never remember which one I need! I for one would be willing to pay for the privilege of it.

when saving your file, check the "Custom Icon" option, then you can get a tiny preview if you set icon size to say 128x128 in Finder

Hi, I have considered this but really I need it to update in every change I make, then I can deliberately save the file in a view of what I have done etc and see the change in the file.

I could update the custom icon of each file every time but really, I not about to do that!

I just really hope that someone makes a plugin, it's about time, Quick Look has been around for ages now!

I have made a plugin that adds an icon when you click a button in the 'File' menu.

it adds icons to your .skp files...

it's nearly ready for release, I think.

I decided to keep it clean and simple.

It doesn't modify the 'drawing' at all, has no 'frame' and is very wysisyg...

if you don't like the result, re-frame and re-run, when you're happy, that's it, I'm happy...

no need to save the model for the icon to stick...

dense drawings take longer and you may have to wait 20-30secs for some...

I have no idea if it would work in v6, but most likely will.

                Interested in testing it out?

I posted one approach in this topic

Hmm. for some reason that link goes to a topic doesn't exist page, despite the fact that I copied the URL from the page while I was viewing the posting...if you type it with http://sketchucation.com/forums prepended it ought to work?

It saves a separate image whenever you save a SketchUp file and causes Finder to use that Image for QuickLook. Not as neat as a technique that wouldn't require the separate image, but it works.
