SU8 - WISHLIST
-
This should be SkethUp 7.1 wishlist not 8 - harumph!
-
couldn't agree more Simon B. I'm also still waiting for the (real) release of sketchup 7...
Oh! and i forgot: FOR THE LOVE OF GOD, just put back the navigation back botom in the materials/texture browser!! Who the hell had the ideia to remove it in the first place?!? i don't know how you make the decisions and test your own software Google, but it seriously need a drastic change...
And if you could make dynamic components convert the measures from the imperial to the metric system (and viceversa) it would be nice (not everyone uses the imperial system...)

Hi Kevin,
You actually do not need to select the edge just the face to make a sphere (if I understand your wish correctly): altogether 6 clicks to make a sphere (including drawing the circles):

Bob; true that it would be nice if an extrusion (of any kind, not just lathing) would NOT explode curves, circles and such entities (if that's what you mean).
i know that =P

I would like to see the state of DCs saved with the scene data. That way a door could be opened from one scene to another, etc. Even better would be if the action of the DC (door) were spread out over the frames created from one scene to the next.
To add to this:
I'd like to see the state of DCs being saved with each scene, so going from scene to scene would trigger the state change. -
#4 on your list about scenes saving component locations AND point location - seems like something ruby could do, right? That might be a pretty impressive ruby script if someone dared to figured it out.

Are you sure about that? A ruby like that would be a realease as great as Whaat's Subdivide&smoth was. But i think if it's possible to do it using just ruby i don't know if would work as fast and stable as it should because it would have to save the location in space of each point using skethcup scenes and that would use a lot of memory or something right?for high poly models at least. And the maping of each face could be a problem (a minor one) with a face changing its shape in the animation. But i know ruby as much i know coking... and the only thing i can do in the kitchen it's juice... So it probably can be done (i hope so!any ruby master hearing me? )
But a plugin like these would even allow us animating transformations and other things...allrigh i'm gonna stop talking about these because i'm starting to drool...

No, I'm not certain, but it seems like it is within the abilities of ruby. Look at the animation of DC's. They are the same idea, just not tied together with scenes. And you have to program the animation through scale, rotation, and x,y,z positioning. It would be cool if it were more keyframe oriented and tied together closely with scenes.

It would be nice to have a 3D text tool that can place letters along a curved path...with adjustable spacing....and smoother line quality.
-
Another:
when i get a high poly model, when i rotate it the textures turn off and (some) groups turn into boxes. WTF? so my other wish is that this STOPS. -
Please fix the clipping, in the next release.

KS, this is a feature really. It means you can keep orbiting without SU grinding to a halt while it tries to redraw textures etc.
-
oh.
-
something only is a bug until someone tells you its a feature...
(no, but honestly. that is really a feature and I am sure they spent quite some time developing it. and I have to say, I am quite grateful for it; makes working a lot easier)
-
Wow! When is Sketchup 8 coming?

Cool, I get the same situation also.. Been waiting a long time fot it to be fixed.

I would wish that the Styles window had an easy way of switching between the standard and Sketchy Edges modes, in addition of the clumsy mixing of features from an other style.

Hello everyone,
My wishes for Sketchup 8 would be:
- native multi core support - obvious reasons, it had be asked for by a lot of people here
- native 64-bit support - same thing, with some performance gains hopefully
- mirror tool - this would be a tool that mirrors a component on an axis, I've been modeling a train recently (still not completely finished), and its a pain to have to make all the components twice, once for each side.
I'm not sure if there is anything that resembles this mirror tool, I've just recently started using su 7 and I may not be completely clear with all its features, though I watched all the tutorial movies.
I was kind of disappointed with su 7, because of lack of multi core and 64 support, but hopefully the developers are working on them.
Looking forward to version 8 -
Hi Seppe,
Mirroring is possible in two "native" ways in SU:
- right click on a component and > Flip (long any axis you wish)
- or scale it by -1
And of course there are plugins that "know" even more...
And yes, performance improvement (achieved by any means) has been a wish for long
-
Hey,
Ok, I will try them both on a separate model to see how exactly each tool works.
Thanks.
-
One more tip with the scale tool however:
- click on the component you want to mirror and make a copy (Ctrl+C)
- Use the scale tool to mirror it
- Go to Eit > Paste in place to get the original half back. (I have even assigned a hotkey to Paste in place - Shift+Ctrl+V) - it'ss o useful and often use by me since I learnt the trick from Plot Paris).
