Anyone up for a speed modellign challenge?
-
I would suggest only 15 minutes of concentrated modelling - thus it really is a short exercise with emphasis on speed!
half an hour of super-fast modeling at lunch break would cause extreme exhaustion and inability to keep on working for that day in my caseanother question is: how much preparation is allowed. I would suggest, once you read the task-description, you are allowed to prepare mentally or by doing hand sketches.
it is not allowed however to practise modelling of parts of the model. because if I practise doing the same form over and over again, eliminating any obstacles, the whole idea of speed modelling (with the process of overcoming difficulties in short time) is spoiled.
what do you think?

i'm in.

Plot, i was thinking of similar sorts of things in relation to prep stuff, do as much sketching etc. as you want but extra modelling is off limits.
Apart form that can we jsut try and keep it simple? i.e. 30 min limit with faster modelling being better.

how about just setting an end date, with a time limit on modelling (like the 30mins suggested) with sketches and anything wip related (not sketchup modelling) to be posted before the submit date.
that way this would haev more time to filter through to more people, and you can see the progression from sketch to model too.just an idea.

good idea, allthough I will not post my feeble atempts of hand sketching
some years ago we had sketching lessons early in the first and second semester. then I found SketchUp (unfortunately) and never since I truely atempted to do something just by hand
I know, very, very bad! perhaps this speed modelling challenge is a reason to start hand sketching again...

if people were to record their modelling as a video then cheating would be a lot harder..
using fraps (http://www.fraps.com/) is extremely easy

Howz about a lowest poly [file size] being the benchmark instead.
Then, select the lowest 3 file sizes [within 1 week or other] and put them to a vote for best over-all quality.[by poll]Seems to me this would be the best for practice/competition.
My 2 cents

Remus - You've got your 15 Yes votes. Hurry up and get the contest going before all the paranoid people on here strangle the life out of the contest with their fears of someone cheating.

The forum that I posted a link to earlier has all sorts of "speed" modeling and specialty competitions. They have one that is specifically for low poly and one that is speed (1 hour limit of modeling work). I think it is best to keep the 2 separate, but that is just my thoughts.
And yeah, like John says, lets get on with it already. Just start it in this forum and if it catches on, maybe we can ask them later for a subforum of competitions or something.
