About the only thing that I got that could be a hint to the future of SU, was the RECOGNITION by some strategic SU personnel as to ingenuity and importance/impact of Ruby Scripting.

Also, it seems, that number of SU employees has grown.

What that would mean in real terms, is anyone's guess.

Thats true, that number has grown dramatically and many of them that I read about are 3d mesh specialists.

Don't forget guys that the number of employees had to grow also because of the integration into GE and the "QA engineering" in the WareHouse where there are hundreds of new models for GE every day. These people check ever model individually before letting it onto the 3D Layer of GE.

And the number of users have significantly grown as well and they have special programs for schools and such...

But of course, when you see that the number of codersgrow, it might mean something. 😉

I´m slowly going through the content posted on youtube, and have to say that most of the material is very good. I´ve picked a couple of useful techniques, and seen useful new ways to use our current tools.
So thanks a lot to all the people involved in these presentations (google and non google). Particularly, Daniel Tal, and Mitchel Stangl, for showing (me) creative uses of old tools (even acad....).

I wonder if the development is more turning towards Googles other projects, like more integration into google earth / maps and youtube, than actual modelling tools ?

                    I wonder too.

When one watches Google skillfully moving against its competition w/ MS and Yahoo, I'd think they'd be losing focus to even consider doing much more to SU than sitting on it -- but who knows what (if anythg) lurks in the shadows of the corporate mind...😉

For now there's certainly not an obvious push to broadly market the program or promote SU beyond the converted and the choir (that seems certain given the way Basecamp was "advertised" and now disseminated over U-Tube of all places (Mark Carvalho, where are you?;-)).

At the same time, I'm not sure an upgrade would be much better than what one can already patch together w/ Rubies (and find in sister programs). I sure can't find anythg better...maybe that's what also they see in the "pentagon."

At 3dBaseCamp I spoke with many of the developers who were there. Although it was clear they had been instructed to not say much about what was in development they were all forthcoming on what areas they worked --- like GUI, LayOut, Styles, etc. There was no sense that any I spoke with were working on integration into google earth / maps or youtube.

What was very clear was they were proud of the work they were doing and several noted they think the users will be very pleased with version 7.

Here's another observation: At 3dBaseCamp we could see Google employees in their normal work environment. In general, it seemed to me that the SketchUp team were a much happier bunch than the typical Google employee who frankly, seemed kind-a gloomy. Maybe it was because the SketchUp team were away from their Boulder office but I don't think so. Instead it seems the Boulder team have a real joy for what they are doing and that a team with strong chemistry has developed. The team has an unusual amount of very charismatic people. Aiden, Dusty, John Bacus, and Bryce come to mind. They have an infectious enthusiasm that clearly relates to a love of SketchUp.

I went away from BaseCamp happy in the knowledge that Google has a strong SketchUp team.

                      Regards, Ross

You're trying to make me feel bad for deleting Bryce time and again?
