How to make a waterfall?

i need a better way of doing a waterfall in SUp than just coloring a plane.
the picture shows the situation: a large sheet of water falls from a top pool into a lower pool.any ideas on how to do it? the model will be exported to be rendered in another app, but i would wish it look believable in SUp.

Especially if rendered, I'd place a little curvy face (curved at the top as the water starts falling) in front of that wall so that when it is rendered (with hopefully a better texture), it can be partly transparent and the wall visible behind it.

How about creating two squiggly lines (top and bottom of waterfall) and using the skin ruby on it?

here you go, feel free to ask questions as its a bit rough around the edges, as tuts go.
edit: the tut basically does what juju's describing.

Edson, here's a quick idea. skp attached so you can play around till you get the effect you want. Sorry couldn't attach skp as it was 577 KB zipped. If you're still interested I can e-mail it to you but it seems like remus did a nice job.

Maybe this might help Edson? Alan Fraser made this falling water for my tsukabai. Check out how he did the splashes with a little tree.

Just had a look at your tut remus, very good info. I rarely use any rubies. What I did was very simple, draw a sqiggly line, copy it and close the ends in to form a face, draw another line for the water path, use the follow me tool. That's what I love about SU, so many ways to accomplish something.

Edson, this is fun: my answer was to set the water texture to "projected" then exturd the face (I also selected some to the resulting vertical faces and set them to not cast shadows). With a splash image (I just saw a link to a couple of free ones here a couple of days ago but can't find it now) at the bottom and some work at the top (like Mike's...could you please post that on Kelley's site for me, thanks a bunch), then some scale squeezing like real water...would look pretty good?

Over in the 3d world, we make waterfalls out of terrains turned sideways and then a texture added...If you would go get the free copy of Bryce 5.5 (DAZ), you could make great falls and import into Sketchup...

Thanks Frederick, I used Podium. BTW, I'm looking forward to the KT release, haven't really used KT much because I was such a rendering newbie but the new release looks awesome. Will mail you the skp, can't believe this has generated such interest as it seems pretty easy.

Edson, no didn't forget...though I do try too (I started a really complicated rendition and figured out how to make them reasonable size-wise, about a meg, and close-up good looking, but now remains the tedium of work to complete :`) I'll get there, and hopefully they'll be worth the wait.
