My family are all from Birmingham and I was born and brought up in a place called Kenilworth which as you can see from Wiki is famous for bugger all:
      http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kenilworth

But my adopted City of Belfast has a very long and impressive list of things (Titanic etc.), People (CS Lewis, Lord Kelvin etc.) and Places.

English doesn't borrow from other languages. It follows them down dark allies, knocks them over, and goes through their pockets for loose grammar.

I can't wait to come to Europe! I have yet to see it!

Calgary, Alberta is famous for a couple things... mostly the stampede http://calgarystampede.com/

we've got a couple inventions here too, ginger beef, and the ceasar drink come to mind first. I guess our last claim to fame is province wide, Alberta is the only province/state in North America that is out of debt (mostly thanks to the tar sands oil lol)

Knoxville has the Womens' Basketball Hall of Fame, and is home to Coach Pat Summit. Knoxville has the setting for a "Simpsons" episode - the one where Bart and his friends knock over the Sunsphere from the World's Fair (it is still standing).

              Newcastle upon Tyne = Tyneside:
              We are called "Geordies".
Wherever you go you'll find a Geordie...
              Own language. Own culture.
Where England has almost stopped BUT Scotland hasn't quite started yet either...

After 'Received Pronunciation' it's the most trusted 'accent' in the UK.

Way aye man ! [Of course.]

It's actually the bit of England that's so far north that in the UK it's called the 'North-East". It's much further north than Lancashire or Yorkshire - the bits that are thought of by most of UK and for that matter the World to be 'The North'... Even some southern 'Englanders' think that Newcastle is in Scotland !

My mother was a Geordie from Newcastle upon Tyne TIG. She was always proud of being a Geordie.

I know this is a typical North American attitude, but I just can't watch soccer (football), not entirely sure why, but I don't find it engaging at all...

I'm also not the biggest hockey fan out there, but I do know that the Flames are better than the Canucks in every way (bahahahaha). Especially because of the Red Mile, and Flames girls (neither of which I'll link to, because they are chalk full of topless women, just look it up)

Hahaha, yeah I'm not a big hockey fan either, I just figured it was the obilgatory post for me to make when confronted with someone from Calgary. I'm sure you noticed but, "yay" and "booooo" aren't really typical angry hockey rhetoric 😆 .

Unfortunately the Newcastle Brewery closed - it moved over the river to Gateshead briefly but I think that 'Scottish and Newcastle' have moved back to Scotland... Some debate about whether or not Newcastle Brown Ale can be a protected name when it's not made here any more...

On the plus side it does mean we are looking at converting their old corporate HQ into a smart hotel - next to St James' Park (home of 'The Toon' - NUFC). The rest of the large site to the west of the city centre is earmarked for a conference centre, Hilton Hotel, offices, science park etc - one of the few big bits of town that needs a big boost
