My town has the most university students per capita in the whole country. Also the first university in Hungary was founded here.
We have a late Roman cemetery with dozens of burial chambers - quite a few with frescos -, chapels etc. that is listed among UNESCO's World Heritage.
Plus Gaieus was born and has ever since lived here...

ludwigsburg has the biggest baroque castle in germany (built 1718-1723).
in marbach, the town i went to school, friedrich schiller, the famous german poet, philosopher, historian, and dramatist, was born.

I live on a scenic island that is predominantly rural in character and low in population. It is its gentle character that makes it unique.

I know some of your island - the university (prof. János Fedák more exactly) there used to send archaeology students to our excavations for field trips (you apparently do not have too many Roman ruins there

Csaba - you are right, Dr. Janos Fedak is the Head of the Department of Fine Arts at the University of Prince Edward Island. The university is one of the really good things about our Island. It is a small, pre-dominantly undergraduate university with about 3,300 full-time students and 200 faculty.
In all seriousness - if any of you know young people, close to University age, it is well worth their considering coming here for an education. The quality of education is high, far more personalized than larger universities (with faculty who know their students by name even in 101 courses), and it has many international students. UPEI has the highest ranking in Canada for faculty awards.
An important aspect is the cost -- much less expensive to get a quality education here than in many parts of the world. Even factoring transportation costs getting to & from here it can be relatively inexpensive. (Note: The higher fees for international students reflects that they are less subsidized by government and not related to any attempt to profit from them).

I actually know him personally for he used to come "home" quite regularly for digs.
Unfortunately the last group of students he sent here were more interested in partying than in the archaeology stuff so he stopped sending them
I also used to work at his excavation in Hungary when we were digging a Roman temple.

My adopted home town (originally from Chicago), infamous for a jail break by 1930's bank robber John Dillinger - used a phoney gun and stole the sheriffs car for his get away.On a lighter note, this city was home of the original marriage mill,
(no waiting-no tests etc.), before Las Vegas - Rudolph Valentino and Ronald Regan being two notables married at the courthouse (a beautiful old building ca. 1872 that I have helped restore, by the way.The Indianapolis 500 had its start in Crown Point in 1909:
"Believed to be Indiana’s first major car race, The Cobe Cup continues to be an annual event for Crown Point, Indiana. Now a ceremonial event, the once grueling race was originally held south of the County Courthouse. First held on June 19, 1909, this 25 mile race was the forerunner of the Indianapolis 500. Awarded the winner’s cup for the Cobe race was a Swiss-born man who later became quite famous: Louis Chevrolet.
The first (and only) 25 mile Cobe Cup was an enormous financial flop. Promoters anticipated an onslaught of race fans, all eager to buy tickets and flock to waiting stores to purchase souvenirs. What happened, however, was quite the opposite: the Cobe Cup had a grand total of one paying ticket holder. More frugal race fans opted for lawn chair seating along the race route, as opposed to the ticket-charging grandstand.
What was once a financial flop has become a sentimental success. The Cobe Cup Cruise, as it is also referred, is an annual summertime delight for those who showcase their vintage cars and for those who view the cars along that historic 25 mile route."

we've got a couple inventions here too, ginger beef, and the ceasar drink come to mind first. I guess our last claim to fame is province wide, Alberta is the only province/state in North America that is out of debt (mostly thanks to the tar sands oil lol)

It's actually the bit of England that's so far north that in the UK it's called the 'North-East". It's much further north than Lancashire or Yorkshire - the bits that are thought of by most of UK and for that matter the World to be 'The North'... Even some southern 'Englanders' think that Newcastle is in Scotland !
