How to change other format into sketchup format?
-
thx!!i don really understand but i managed to convert it into 2d format but its like a pictures there.how can i pull it?
-
No, don't do it - you'll have to build everything again in SU this way. You need a vector based format and if Anssi is right, you should be able to export in dxf that can then be imported into SU. Then you'd already have the vectors in SU and could work from them (as SU is also a vector based modeller).

wat is vector? sry i'm newbie
-
Well, a vector is a mathematically calculated line in space from one endpoint to the other (actually it has a direction, too, but you don't need to deal with that in SU). With these vectors you can enclose areas thus creating faces. Every geometry in SU is created by lines and faces (bordering lines are called edges).
Now if you zoom in in SU, you will find that the thickness of lines do not change, right? That's because they are not made up of dots like in a raster format image.
Raster images are made up of dots (pixels) and if you zoom in, the image will become quite blurry and you can see the little squares of different colours that create the whole image.
While SU can identify and snap to different vector based elements (line, endpoints, midpoints, face etc) using its inference engine (and making outr lives easier), you cannot find such snapping points (other than "on face" in a raster image therefore you can only roughly follow the lines found there.
Now as both SU Free and SU Pro can import vector graphics, users of SU like this better than importing raster images with which there's a lot of hassle afterwards.
SU Free can export in raster format only (jpg, png, tiff etc) while the Pro version is also able to export in certain vector based formats as well for further use say in architectural plans.
The "generally" accepted vector based file formats are (and compatible with most vector applications) dxf and dwg but obj and 3ds is also often used. SU's "native" vector based export file type is actually a collada file with an extension of dae. This is created so that you can see buildings in GE. (the dae file is hidden in the kmz file - which is actually a zip file - along with other stuffs...)
I know that my explanation is not 100% correct but if you really know so little about this, it may still help (I'm not an expert myself either).

thx for ur explanation.learnt a lot. i managed 2 get it into dxf and dwg form but still cant pull it.its still like a picture.
-
You won't be able to import an imported dwg/dxf...not unless you explode it first and fill the faces in.
It might be easier to simply trace over the top of an unexploded import. You ought to find that the Line tool snaps to the ends of lines quite easily.

does that mean i draw on the lines manually on the picture?

Yes.

omg...........tat is 2 many lines......i hav like 50 chair wit donna how many lines and others stuff....where can i get things like furniture stuff that can be added and just in sketchup????

The 3d warehouse is a good place to start.
-
how to i resize the item i import from 3d warehouse?
-
-
man........another problem..........i downloaded a lot of models from 3dwarehouse but i can only open it through open and cant open them using import??and if i open using the open button ,i can only open 1 image at 1 time.........how????????
-
You can import them if they are downloaded from 3DWarehouse.
You need to klik import and set the extensionbar on the right extension.
Then you need to click on the place where you want to put your model in your existing scene. -
Yes, currently there's a glitch with this in SU. You cannot bring these components into your current document (although you should be able to). The "workaround" is to download them - in this case a new instance of SU will open - click on the component, copy it and switching to your other (previously open) document, paste it in. (And I only hope you are just talking about "images" accidentally for otherwise I don't know what you are talking about.)
OR you can save it anywhere and then import the model as a component through the File > Import > 3D model menu. I actually always use this option since I browse the WareHouse with my internet browser (Firefox) rather than using the built in browser (IE).

ok thx for the help guy.really apreciate it. 1 more question can i add like tiles on the floor on sketchup.how do i do it coz i hav the model but the ground is empty
