I think these come with the materials bonus pack:

        Error 404 (Not Found)!!1

        favicon

        (sketchup.google.com)

I tried to upload but for some reason the forum doesn't allow .skm file extension. Seems odd since this is a sketchup forum. Could any moderators explain why this is?

I think you will need to create actual geometry with holes in it to cast a broken shadow. The translucent materials cast no shadow. And a mixture of translucent and opaque casts full shadow.

Perhaps try a regular metal texture on a surface with many holes. I think this may be the only way to get the effect you want. But I could be wrong.screen.jpg

Sketchy, you could always include the SKM file in a ZIP archive - the forum supports that file extension at this time.

SKM is in fact a zipped format sou you can even rename it zip and post it like that.

But I'll take care of this and add the extension. Thanks for reporting the issue.

Well looks like that worked Gai. I suppose you need to put these in your materials folder (I also have a subfolder named fencing) and changed the .zip to .skm

thanks for working on the file extension change Gai

should i change any of them to .skm or the actual zipped file?

Edson, I may be too late but this might work. It's a metal perf. material I have that is a little transparent. It gives the illusion of being able to see through it. This is a SU5 file.

Here are a couple I have. The round punched texture was found on the old sketchup forums, but I can't remember who posted it. The wire mesh is one that I made for a project last year. Both of these have transparency in the surface but will cast a solid shadow. The only way around that as far as I can tell is to actually model all of the perforations in your surface. Hope this helps anyhow.

I think you just want to change .zip to .skm

But I have never done this before so give that a try. Or just download the entire material bonus pack. There are some goodies in there.
