How to make up an estimate?
-
Hi Folks!
I'm going to design and build my dream house using SketchUP.
Finally, i will need to get a list of all components with their quantity, to be able to prepare an estimate. Is there a way to do so?Thank you for your help!

Hi wlynx,
Welcome on the forum!
There are a few plugins that can help you on your way, I downloaded one recently for woodwork, sorry can't remember the name but with a little search you'll find them.
Sorry not to be of great help it was more to welcome you on board!Regards,

Wlynx,
Go to:
viewtopic.php?f=18&t=3434
Download one of TIGs fantastic scripts ComponentReporter+
Copy the *.rb file to the Plug-in folder, typically here:
C:\Program Files\Google\Google SketchUp 6\Plugins
Very useful.
This will create 2 CSV files - listing out your Components (and other useful info).
Hope this helps

Just out of curiosity, what level of detail are you going for? Will you be building it from the ground up, stick by stick?

I just want to create a rough model and estimate quantity of materials. Then I will give this sketch to architect, of course. He will shape it up and prepare building documentation according to our standards.

I have never tried this ruby before, but I imagine it will only estimate things you have drawn.
If you draw in foundations, floor joists, slabs etc then these will be estimated. So a basic model may not give you much of an estimation at all.
I could be wrong though, so hopefully someone who has used this plugin can explain this. -
Now Iβm planning to design all components with help of special literature. It's very interesting. So, I'm going to kill two birds with one stone

- I will get home plan in details and material estimation.
- Will gain basic experience in building technologies.
Thanks for advice!
