Oh SHIFT!

Help...
Suddenly my entire foundation shifted and I don't know how to resolve it! I have a building set on a 4' elevated foundation. The foundation (or building) has shifted causing the foundation to be slanted on the N & S.
Any ideas?
Thanks

?...shift it back?
Seriously, need a model or at least a pic in order to help much.

if you havent saved lately, you could do a soft crash, and not recover from auto save. this takes careful consideration about how often and what you may loose. proceed with caution. But if your timing is right you can open the job back to before the shift.

you might have executed a move and grabbed some unseen ingredients.. and distorted your drawing...I hate it when that happens.. if you cant pin point the event it is probably better to redraw and be aware. But of course Tom has many tricks and techniques and probably offer smarter solutions...
-
Hank, no, on this one I fully expected to see what you suggested happened and to suggest the same solution...but you never know (and I never know what I'll get learn trying to help :`)
-
Sure, without seeing anything it's just beating around the bush...

I can't upload the file, I guess it's too large?? What do you suggest format-wise?
You guys have been great, thanks for your help.
It's a 600ft long building w/ a 4' foundation. I can't pinpoint where it's moved, but the entire foundation is slanted...
Let me know what I should do to upload...

Ok, here it is...

When you look at this can you also refer to my other post on how to effectively elevate my curbs, walls, etc from the DWG...?

Hi folks.
Since you already know that the foundation is slanted along the north/south direction or green axis, you can simply rotate it around the red axis untill any north/south edge becomes aligned with the green axis. This is valid if the foundation has been rotated as a whole. If it has been distorted by moving part of it downward, read the procedure 2 further down.
I would try the following Procedure 1, assuming that the rear of the building is lower than the front:
1 - Select all of it.
2 - Select the Rotate Tool
3 - Press the left mouse button (LMB) on any endpoint in the front of the building. Dont release the button.
4 - While the LMB is still depressed, slide the cursor along the front edge. The rotation protractor shall turn red indicating that you have selected the red axis as the axis of rotation.
5 - Release the LMB while the protractor is red.
6 - Click the LMB on any point on one side or the back of the foundation to grab it.
7 - Bring back the cursor on the protractor graduations and try to keep the cursor near the horizontal. You shall get a snap and a pop-up stating "on green axis".
8 - Click the LMB again to set the foundation. It shall now be horizontal.
Procedure 2 if the foundation has been distorted.
1 - Select the whole back face.
2 - Select the Move Tool.
3 - Grab the selected back face by one of the top corner.
4 - Move it up untill you get a snap with the equivalent top corner of the front face with a pop-up stating "Constrained on line from point". This indicates that the two corners are now level.
However, if you have distorted only one corner or also moved horizontally as well as vertically, you will need more steps to realign the foundation. It is doable but without a model it is difficult to help you more precisely.
If the model is too large, try to copy only the problematic part in a new SU file and post it here if possible. Purge the file before saving to get rid of as many textures and layers as possible. Better yet, strip the new SU file (containing only the foundation) of all textures and layers to make it as small as possible.
Just ideas.

I was thinking to obliterate the problem skirt. Group the skirt from one of the other buildings and copy it to the bldg one. the problem seems to come from the vestibule connector btwn bldg one and two. After your replace the foundation skirt, fix that little vestibule area. it isnt too bad.

Well, with all of your help and know what I now know, I just started over!
It's actually going quickly. I'm doing it right (I think). I've created the buildings raw and made each a group. Then I put a roof on w/ perapits, and made them their own group. Now I'll do the same for walls, etc.
This is a great forum and I appreciate all your input...

Ok, I THOUGHT I was doing it the right way by starting over, but that must not be the case!!!!!
Now my components won't insert correctly.
Based on the plan I uploaded, how would any of you sensibly start on this project?
Thanks

RSW,
I would say:
- -start with Window=>Styles=>Edit=>Edge Setting: Color: By axis
- -then select Face Style: X-ray
- -look up towards the bottom of your model
- -now start correcting, it doesn't look that bad!
BTW, why not use components in the future, less hassle!

All I did to straighten your foundation was:
1, Draw a line on the blue from the corner of the building.
2, Use a construction line to mark the point.
3, select the whole base face (double-click on the face)
4, Use the move tool and hold shift to keep it on green and you should be able to snap to the end point of the con-line.Hope this helps
