What extension exactly? What exact version of SketchUp 8?

Let's us assume you have downloaded the extension as an RBZ file.
then assuming you have the most up to date version of v8 you need to use the Preferences >Extensions tab to locate and the install the RBZ file's contents.
For any earlier versions you'll need to re-suffix the .RBZ as .ZIP, extract its contents, and then move those into the v8 Plugins folder, and restart SketchUpu...An extension that is complex might be incompatible with older versions, so expect for error messages,,,

Version 8.0.15158.
So with that version you'll need to do as TIG indicated and download the .rbz file, change the extension to .zip, extract the contents maintaining the file structure and then add that into the Plugins folder. Then quit and restart SketchUp.
It's too bad you didn't update to the latest version when you had the chance. Installing extensions was made much easier as TIG described.
Please complete your forum profile with SketchUp version, operating system, etc. That information helps us help you.
