Work smarter not harder in 2022 with LayOut and SketchUp Pro

A lifting of lockdown restrictions bonus! Hope they all get a few days off before dev'ing 2023 starts
-
A lot of new features that's for sure!!
-
Looks like one of the most feature-rich releases in recent years, though that's not been a very high bar!
Lots of long-time requests and annoyances left unaddressed, but the new additions โ especially in LO โ look good. I am most interested to hear how well it performs on M1 Macs, now that it runs natively. That alone could make it worth subscribing (I have a 2021 Classic license), since I plan on upgrading to a M1 MacBook at some point this year.
I'd still like to see the development pace accelerate somewhat โ and address those longstanding issues โ but the trajectory is encouraging, especially when compared to inevitable disappointment that attended previous releases.

The LO API, can plugins / extensions be created for it yet? No? What? How many years has it been since this was first mentioned by SketchUp themselves (IIRC). Also, some of the new features to SU, I'm some of them was available in the form of plugins / extensions already, but I'll have to take some time out to check thoroughly though...

Ya, that's a head-scratcher, what's really happened there? You would think that it would be a major dev priority, given the missing LO features/capabilities/workflow automation that a live extension API would enable.
We have a plethora of talented extension authors that could leap into the breach and fill in the missing pieces, especially for supporting varied and/or specialized workflows and feature requests.
Weird that they made such a grand announcement (back in 2016, I think), raising expectations for a similar LO extension ecosystem to SU... then nothing for 5, now 6 years. WTF?

Has anyone installed the update to 2022 yet to see if there are any compatibility issues with plugins or other apps or should I just go ahead and update to 2022?

Fredo tools seem to be working on 2022. Only ones I've messed with so far.

Thanks Glenn.
Is this an update or a complete separate install? Will SU 2021 remain in place?
If it's separate then that means reinstalling plugins and apps. Thea Forum shows it as a separate install. As long as 2021 keeps working I can experiment with SU 2022.
-
Never mind. Answered my own question. It's a separate install and both are working fine.
-
Installed SU 2022 and everything went smoothly. Copied my SU 2021 plugins and only had to re-enter my Medeek licenses.
Everything else is working fine with what I checked so far: Profile Builder 3, Thea Render; Instant Architect; Cloth Works; Medeek Wall, Foundation and Truss; and Skatter 2. Seems a little faster.
The Tag tool is really handy to change objects, groups or components to the tag your currently set on and works like a "magic wand."
