3d printing a 2d map
-
Hi I’m trying to print a map of st Maarten in the Caribbean
Any one have any idea how you download a file and turn it into a file SU understands
Thanks Dean -
You could import the image as an image and trace it. Use Push/Pull to make it 3D. Or you could do a geo-location import and make the terrain 3D. The island is big enough you'd have to make it in several imports.

If its DEM/SRT type data you could convert that to a bitmap and use bitmap to height extension to make the terrain.
Be mindful that every pixel becomes a polygon so don't ask SketchUp to make a terrain from 2048px x 2048px image. Unless your a sadist?

I have found maps in different formats such as png and svg, can SU import them?

Not SVG. That's vector based.
