Problem with copy shortcut
-
Hi all, At home I use Sketchup pro 2021. To copy is simple........ctrl+'C', However at a new place of work I am temporarily using a laptop with moderate gaming specs. Sketchup seems to work OK, But when I do the same 'copy' shortcut.............nothing. I can copy using Edit and on the drop down hit copy and then paste the object but that is a pain. Any ideas guys?

What is the operating system on that computer?

Hi Dave, windows 10

What are you copying? Is it a huge amount of data? What happens if you quit SketchUp, restart it, and then try copying something simple like a cube?
BTW your profile says you are stillusing SketchUp 2017 Make. Please update your profile. Thanks.

Sounds like you are saying the shortcut keys for "copy" is not working on this particular computer. Is it working on other programs? Did you set up the computer or SketchUp? Perhaps someone has reassigned the shortcuts for SU or assigned an overiding computer shortcut for what should be "copy".

hmmmm how about assigning any new shortcut for Copy temporarily within the preferences for example "Alt + C" to test if this would work then. Then you could reassign the usual shortcut "CTRL + C". At least this way you would get an impression whether SkUp's shortcut system works reasonably or not or whether the usual shotcut "CTRL + C" is probably already assigned to any other SkUp function....
(I had a similar case once when I was working with my colleagues in France - until I found out about the for me unusual letter options and the French keyboard layout, half a day had passed ) -
Thanks guys, as far as somebody chaning shortcuts.........no, I only downloaded the trial edition and nobody else has had access. I am working from home so I am no longer am able to test. I should have tested other shortcuts to start diagnosis. Will gine it a go tomorrow though

The keyboard shortcut for Copy as well as for Cut, Paste, and a number of others are hard coded by the operating system. The user can reassign Ctrl+C to do something else in SketchUp but it won't stick. It will be reset to Copy. This is why I suggested quitting and restarting.
Also make sure you installed SketchUp 2021 correctly. That requires right clicking on the downloaded installer and choosing Run as administrator. If you didn't do that, do it now. Quit SketchUp first. Right click on the installer, choose Run as administrator and when it is offered, choose Repair.

You aren't actually referring to copying with the Move tool are you? Perhaps holding Ctrl after getting the Move tool? If so, don't hold it. Only tap Ctrl once after Selecting the Move tool.
