Stanley 4 1/2 Plane
-
Decided to put this in “work in progress” as it might be a good while until it’s finished. Got inspired by all the wonderful mechanical bits DaveR models. This is a Stanley 4 1/2 Smooth Plane that I own. Pulling measurements off it the best I can with a dial caliper. This thing is giving me quite a headache. My brain is pretty much stuck on “feet and inches” , measuring and working in decimals makes my head hurt

lot easier to flatten the bottom of this one than those in my shop!

A big amen to that !

Excellent model!

Sometimes, what seem like simple objects can bring brainteasers we do not expect, you have done a great job on this, it looks great. Context render?

Well got the body casting finished….. I think. Ohh…. did I mention the plane has a corrugated sole ?

Thanks Bryan, Thanks Mike. Everyone should hold off on the “great” comments until I get this thing finished ! Might get frustrated and throw it in the trash
. Just doing it for a little change of pace. It will patiently wait in the parts bin. Might get used at some point or it might just take up a little drive space collecting dust.

Handle and knob in place...... now for the the frog ..... yippee !!!!!

Thanks gentlemen

-
The frog is done ! Hooray ! Down to the small bits and threading the machine screws

-
Oops….. forgot the knurling on the adjustment knob….. me bad….. here it is !

-
Got the hold-down screw for the lever cap done. In the process noticed I forgot a couple of casting recesses in the bottom side of the frog ! I suspect there is going to be a lot of going back for things I missed.

OK. Someone had to say it. Can we see the hidden geometry? Hungry for more!
-
pbacot , you asked for it...... might wear you out with this mess !

-
Excellent! Very sharp model. You've really been honing your skills.
-
Thanks Dave. Hardest part has been getting the measurements off the original !

-
I magine that is a challenge. Especially with castings.
