I just updated to SU2021. Working with it today, I just noticed that files don't show thumbnail images. However, files from previous versions show a thumbnail, and saving a file from 2021 to an earlier version 2020, 2017, etc gives a thumbnail in Explorer. Anyone else having this problem?

Yes. It's a known problem. Many users have reported that correctly installing or repairing the SU2021 installation has fixed. That is done by right clicking on the downloaded installer and selecting Run as administrator from the context menu. In the case of repairing the installation, the next step would be to choose Repair when presented with the various options.

The fix seems to be weird...
          Here's how I did it...
You need to use Regedit - don't use it if you are unsure !
Make notes as you go in case you need to reverse any changes...

Windows: Start menu > Run > Regedit > OK

Search for \ThumbsUp.dll in your various entries' Data settings...

Edit the entries that relate to the file-paths where the \ThumbsUp.dll are located...

They should all point towards the latest v2021 ThumbsUp.dll, rather than any earlier ThumbsUp.dll files in earlier versions' installations.

They should all read something like:
          C:\Program Files\SketchUp\SketchUp **2021**\ThumbsUp.dll

Depending on how many versions of SketchUp you have installed it might take a while to find all of the paths and edit them...

After that ALL installed versions of SketchUp seem to make their thumbnail icons properly...
[You might need to restart your PC for the changes to be seen ?]

BUT surely this can be fixed 'properly' by 'the powers that be' at Trimble ??

Thanks for the info. I set up everything, plugins, toolbars, etc., and I'm a in the middle of a major project. At this point I'm not going to risk repairs/reinstalls/regedit, on the chance that there may be a problem and I might have to redo them.

Repairing the installation as I described won't affect extensions or toolbars. Unless you go into the wrong areas and make changes in the Registry Editor, you won't have any effect on them either.
