Auto save not auto saving
-
I can't seem to get my auto save to work. I have SU 2019 Pro. I have checked the settings under my preferences to make sure the box is checked and the time is set for every 5 minutes. I have uninstalled and installed a fresh download and no luck. I'm thinking that it should be showing up as an skb file type and should be located in the same path as my model, but nothing. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Jerry

Auto save saves the saved file at the set time, so every five minutes the .skp is saved with the latest changes.
The .skb is a back up of the .skp and will appear if you have ticked the box for Create Backup.
That used to be the method but there have been some changes in the last few releases that I haven't kept fully on top of as I don't use Auto save.
The sad reality is that you are better off getting in the habit of saving manually regularly. Auto save has been blamed for various anomalies and annoyances. Auto save invariably kicks in just at the wrong moment and at best slows you down at worst crashes the program.
Saving regularly and just before you do something complex or use an extension that might crash the system and saving dated copies to go back to is a more foolproof method than relying on autosave. -
Box, can't say I can argue or dispute anything you say, but my question is "why doesn't it work?" If its a feature and on the drop down menu, then it should be available to those that choose!!

The path where autosaves are placed has changed, it is not the same as the model's folder. I'm a Mac user so not sure of the right path on Windows, but I think it is a folder among the Application Data.

On a PC all Auto-Saved files are now found here.
C:\Users\YOURUSERNAME\AppData\Local\SketchUp\SketchUp 2020\SketchUp\working\SKETCHUP\RecoveredFiles
Change the SketchUp version number to suit your needs...
Such files are no longer kept with the model.
This folder-path is 'hidden' - but using the path pasted into a Windows Explorer address bar should take you there, if you don't have folder-options set to shown hidden files/folders...
