Select all Reversed Faces

Hi All,

I was wondering if there is a way, or a script, that allows you to select all the reversed faces? I want to be able to select all the faces that are purple (reversed).

Look for these methods:

Context menu: reverse faces, orient faces.

Plugin: Front face tool.

SU doesn't know about reversed faces. It only knows orientation compared to something else. "Orient faces" can usually correctly switch the orientation of connected faces to go with a face you choose as correct. "Front face tool" will try to have the front faces visible based on the current camera position. Each method sometimes misses some faces.

As well as the native tools there are several tools to 'flip' faces...

If you have already applied materials inappropriately onto several 'back-faces' that ought to be the other way round, then for example my 'Fix Reversed Face Materials' toolset lets you flip and auto-reapply each face's material as it was onto the correct 'front' face... http://forums.sketchucation.com/viewtopic.php?p=264134#p264134

I select orient faces and nothing happens. Can someone tell tell me how to use it?

I'm assuming you mean the native context-menu tools...

If you have a face that is reversed [i.e. it's showing back-material in View > Monochrome mode], you need to select it and then use the context-menu item to Reverse it.
Note that if it's part of a larger surface that has been 'smoothed', then you'll first need to use View > Hidden Geometry > ON, so you can pick the face on its own.
You can pick several faces using a fence or the the modifier keys and reverse them all at once...

If you have a number of connected faces and some of them are reversed, then you can select one of the faces that is correctly oriented and chose the context-menu item to Orient.
This then adjusts all faces so that they then match the one selected face's orientation.
Note that if the faces do not all touch, or some edges have more that two faces associated with them, then the Orient method can give you unexpected results...
