While I'm working and saving in Layout, I keep seeing this message but can't understand why. It's only me working on this file (no-one else can access it). I've only got Sketchup and Layout open, and this message comes up most of the times I press save (even if I've made no changes within Sketchup).
It's not causing any problems that I can see, but I would like to know why this is happening!
This document’s file has been changed by another application since you opened or saved it.
The changes made by the other application will be lost if you save. Save anyway?

Are you running files from a network or external storage?

The files are saved in Dropbox, but it’s only my computer that has access to Dropbox. This seems to be happening most times I press save in Layout, even if I haven’t made changes in SketchUp.
So while working on one file within Layout, the message comes up most of the times I press save (every few minutes or so).
Nothing bad seems to be happening... but it’s scary seeing a message like this!

The autosave loses sync with dropbox and this causes the message.
Sketchup/LayOut likes local storage not cloud or network storage.

Saving directly to Drop Box or other cloud storage is not recommended at all. In addition to the issue of losing sync, if the access time is too long, Autosave will fail. If you have a crash of the computer or LayOut (or SketchUp) you can lose your work. Better to save the file locally and allow the backups to be created locally. Then sync to the cloud after saving.

Thanks!! Didn't realise I had auto save turned on in Layout (I've always had it disabled within Sketchup).
Have now turned it off, as I prefer to manually save using a keyboard shortcut at specific points when I'm working.
