In my experience, SU zooms faster when I have the cursor pointed on geometry.

Thanks for that but I'm not talking about SU, I'm talking specifically about LayOut. And the same technique of aiming your cursor at geometry makes it zoom fast does not work in LayOut. Open it up and give it a try.

Does anyone have any idea why zoom speed is so slow in LayOut? and whether anything can be done to change it?

Any help on this issue? The scroll wheel is a lot slower to zoom than previous versions of Layout.

I haven't noticed that zooming is any slower in LO 2018 than in any other version on my computer. I've done seven or eight large projects with LO 2018 and seems alright to me. There is a much larger zoom range, though. You can zoom in much closer and out much farther than in previous versions.

          What versions are you comparing?

Comparing 2016 and 2018 (for some reason i can't open both at the same time, is that normal?) but the wheel definitely scrolls slower in 2018.
one push of the scroll wheel in 2016 goes from 100% to 160%
one push of the scroll wheel in 2018 goes from 100% to 130%

Try using Logitech's M705 mouse. The scroll wheel click action can be disabled by an adjacent button to speed zoom action. It still won't match AutoCAD's zoom speed - at least not in its wireframe visual style.

I'm still on 2016 and trialling 2018 now - it is noticeably slower zooming and less responsive, making for a jerky movement and difficulty in getting the right level of zoom. For me it is unusable - it gets in the way when it should be transparent - there is a lag as I start to zoom in or out which isn't there at all on 2016. A small movement on the zoom out drops it back to 70% which isn't what I want. I seem to recall this was the same with 2017, which was one of the reasons I didn't upgrade to that (and I'm paying the annual fee). I'm using an Apple Mighty Mouse and a high spec iMac.

I also realized that difference. The zoom seems to be 50% slower, so very tiring. We need API developers to help us now that they are compatible with Layout 2018. Another function that would make our lives easier is continous dimension, just like in Autocad.

Is this a Mac specific issue or across both platforms? I'm having to stay with Layout 2016 because of this - irritating as I am paying a maintenance fee for a product that is unusable in its current form for me.

I found a work around for this annoying issue.

                      X-Mouse Button Control > Scroll tab > Advanced Window Scrolling > Scroll Method = Method 1 > Vertical Lines = 8

Holy cow. Does that ever help! I would advise any PC user to take this advice and use it. It has made LayOut immediately more useful with this workaround. Hope the issue gets cleared up at Trimble, but until then, this will work just fine on my end.

                        Thank you, Ian! 👊

My Logitech Mx Revolution settings that have helped me some with the slow zoom in LO.
