SketchUp 2017 - anti aliasing problem Mac OS Sierra
-
Just consider it maintenance for 2016. Why upgrade? Nothing worthwhile to upgrade for.

Just the other day as I was working away I opened a new SketchUp window to past some parts in and noticed that it had smooth crisp anti aliasing line work. It was only this window. I couldn't recreate it by opening more windows.
Working on a Retina display with a 1080p monitor hooked up if I dragged the window to the secondary monitor it looked good, not like it usually does.
I could drag other projects / SketchUp files into this window and they would look really good. I changed the style settings to match my other open SketchUp windows and I could see a clear difference.
I kept this window open for a few days to enjoy the crisp line work before I had to restart due to an update.
Hopefully this is fixed with High Sierra & SketchUp 2018

I figured out a consistent way to get anti aliasing to work on my MBP 2016 running macOS Sierra.
For this to work you need the MacBook plugged into an external monitor, I have had it working on 2 different external monitors.
1 - Launch Layout and move the window to the external monitor.
2 - Right click on layout viewport to SketchUp model and select 'open with SketchUp' (SketchUp should not be running)
3 - SketchUp should launch on MacBook screen with much finer line work.Don't know why it works but is does.

Hi, Has anyone loaded & tried Mac High Sierra & SketchUp 2018 yet to see if the anti-aliasing issue is still with us. I'm unlikely to be using dual monitors as a work around. In regards to "why" upgrade, other plugin developers are upgrading such as Skalp who I also pay a maintenance fee too & like using their product.

In Preferences->OpenGL SketchUp 2018 provides choices for AA. They work on my mid-2012 MBP Retina on High Sierra 10.13.1.

Really? That's interesting. So we can now (finally) set the AA with a preference like the Windows version? How about the hit in performance with finer AA? Might be a reason to upgrade.
...said someone who never bothered to load 2017.

That sure is "interesting"!! Glad I asked. Thanks slbaumgartner
