      Hi to all:

I look in to the Chaos web and I can't find any horizontal siding. I looking to create a displacement for:

Hardie plank horizontal lap siding with 10.75โ€ of exposure factory primed.

I can't find any material to look like that, does anybody have some material that can share? Or where to find?

I email chaos ask for the material but it will take at least 2 days to reply.

Thank you for any help. ๐Ÿ˜Ž

        Hi Kalu,

I made a map a while back for this purpose, you're welcome to use it. Use a height 10.75*4 = 43"

The siding material lives in here...

Ha, funnny, same coursing and everything. I made mine years ago just based off the default SU siding material. Doing a simple gradient is easy peasy.
I have found, though, that I more often than not end up modeling my siding because displacement will often leave jagged artifacts unless you set the subd's way high. Also, you have to carefully break up walls so you don't have long triangles that will wreak havoc with displacement.

I have never had luck with disp siding and stay away from it completely. We need a script to make lap and shingle siding!

my shortcut is to use extrude edges by vector. Real quick and simple. Extrude away from the wall the depth of the siding, then extrude up to the back of the siding course above. Just takes a few minutes to do it all.

Can you share a screenshot of your method?

I've been aspiring for months to create building renderings using SketchUp + Vray. I somehow keep returning to this exact thread as I'm sure others have aswell. Hope you can share.

"Extrude line" tool is the one I have as a shortcut.
