Why exporting in FBX doubles vertexes? (Sketchup -> Blender)
-
I found this odd problem. When I export from sketchup to ascii fbx (sadly the only one fbx version that sketchup does), then convert via autodesk fbx converter to binary fbx and import inside blender, I notice there are double vertexes that can be easily removed via Remove Doubles. But it makes workflow super cumbersome (~6k vertexes, ~3k after removing dupes). Faces are unchanged.
When I export to obj and import directly in blender, vertex number is fine. But I need FBX format because it's the only one that keeps groups correctly (no weird grouping on its own by collada and obj formats, obj splits separate parts to group even if they're exploded into single group inside sketchup and collada is doing more weird splits)
I've attached three files (skp + both versions of fbx in zip) I anyone could dig and see what's going on. My gut tells sketchup has ancient fbx exporter that works wonky..

Have you checked your FBX export options ?
I think they should look like this ?
Otherwise the doubled up faces could double up vertices etc ?
