Anyone having issues with the low level of antialising?

Test.set_AA_method(4) doesn't seem to have any effect in 2017.

It's been discussed before and it is being worked on.

Can't even use 2017 because of this. I hope the solution comes soon!

Yes. Hopefully Apple will get off the stick and fix the OpenGL stuff in the graphics drivers that are causing this. The SU team are trying to come up with a work around for the issue but since it really lies on the OS side, it's going to be Apple that needs to make the real fix.

I had this problem, I am using a dual screen set up and if I start Sketchup on the screen with the lower resolution then it seems that this then solves the anti aliasing problem temporarily.

Is there any apparent reason as to why the "Test.set_AA_method(4)" doesn't seem to have any effect in 2017?

Yes. Because the graphics drivers need fixing, as I already wrote. There are folks on the SketchUp team trying to come up with a work around solution but the real fix needs to come from Apple.

I was recently having an anti-aliasing issue w/ 2017 pro on windows 7. I noticed that the "material transparency" setting under "styles" has a significant negative impact on anti-aliasing. see attached PNG's and flip between the 2 quickly; the difference is even more noticeable in the actual model when toggling between "faster" and "nicer" transparency settings, with an inverse relationship to the smoothness of line.

hope this helps, at least temporarily.

Any further developments with this issue? I'm three months into my 2017 Pro upgrade, and still having to use 2016 because of the terrible anti-aliasing. The latest maintenance release doesn't seem to have addressed the problem. (BTW, the issue is not with Sierra--I was still on El Capitan until February.)

The problem isn't with your Mac, it is that the SketchUp team did not implement any support for anti-aliasing when they coded the new graphics pipeline for 2017 on Mac. I haven't seen an explanation of why, just acknowledgment that's what they did.

I've been living with this forever on all versions, because I can't stand the poor performance when I do the AA uptick. You can still use SU! But anyway, why worry because 2017 really has nothing special to offer.

I think in general SU is worse on a Mac. For rendering and SU, I'd consider Windows.

I love my mac but (in my opinion) the MacOS version of SU is damn awful, the materials palette, the layer control and as mentioned above the AA, all of them horrible compared to the Windows version. Plus ... the incredibly poor toolbar layout (or lack of) options.
I have SU2017/Win10 running in bootcamp and it's a beast but then it should be with an i7, 16Gb and the meaty Radion R9.
I know Mac's are damn expensive (this one was £2000) but I just sold my old 2008 MBP Core2Duo for £150 and the new owner couldn't be happier, 10 years old and still going like a champ. Try saying that about a 10 year old Windows box.

My brother gave me his MacPro 1st gen 2006 because I wanted a quad core for rendering, still running. So I've had a MBP a Mac Mini and now a used iMac. The only reason I don't use the MacPro is it's a 32 bit machine. I would rather quit computing altogether if I had to go back to Windows. Everything about Mac is better except this one issue. I've just learned to live with it. What I don't understand is, the videos I've seen of the SU team on a computer it's always a Mac. How do they sleep at night.

I don't know about layer control but the materials palette (which may be impossible for Trimble to fix on Mac), the speed, AA, and how tool palettes and windows are (NOT) handled on the Mac make it worse. (However we don't have the problem Windows users have with "trays"--don't even understand what that is!) In general I believe you can't get a Mac to render as fast... So it's worse--not just the AA issue. but, yes I don't want to use windows either. I also find my latest MBP to be durable, both in keeping up with OS changes, comparable power, security, and physically. Pretty much trouble free. Years ago I've also made up for some of the higher cost when Apple upgraded me to a new gen computer just because my screen crapped out and they didn't want to replace it.

Does anyone know of any progress regarding the Mac Sierra SKP 2017 anti aliasing situation or the chance of a possible fix/outcome. I've noticed the comment that this issue has been looked into by the Trimble team & that it's a Mac graphics card problem but still doesn't help at all with being locked into v2016 Pro & paying for 2017 which will be up for 'maintanence renewal' in the near future.
