Timber Sculpture
-
A piece I would love to make if I could find a client.
Plugins: TaperMaker and Fredo's Radial bend. Rendered with Twilight.
Actual construction would be free forming wood strip laminates around temporary armatures. -
I'd hate to have to dust that bad boy after a few months.

Sealed and hand waxed to high gloss, almost anti-static... in any case, what ever happened to the feather duster?

Sometimes, you just have to build it.

Speculative building of anything, especially sculpture, can be a slippery road to insolvency...been there... sold off too many things at cost or less as they got more and more tired-looking from being carted around or stored for a couple of years.
My current (and evolved) practice is to work collaboratively with clients to resolve their particular needs, whether sculptural and/or functional. So this current (SU) example is just putting it out there without spending two weeks and 500 bucks for a beautiful object which SWMBO will most definitely not allow to be stored in the bedroomBet you don't build many decks on spec Joe.
But in any case, isn't that the whole point of SU? To make it real before you have to make it really.

Pretty darn cool. Gave myself a headache though, thinking about the number of jigs and clamps it would take during the build, not to mention how many sets of hands i'd need !
Really can relate to your comment about building on spec. When I shut my old business down , had a handful of items built for museum exhibits. Ended up selling them for less than material cost... just a little depressing

I am not that joe wood; don't want the wrong guy to take the heat. I do custom work and I have built "things" just to see where it may go. But that's me; I don't expect anyone to be me. sorry for the advise.

....joeSorry wrong joe, but what heat? I was just explaining where I am in my practice, and trying to show how SU can save a whole lot of wasted work by not having to make it really. I am not anymore a 'pure' artist who is driven to produce for myself, I get my buzz working with clients.
The concept did get up however, in a small way...
BTW, this below was a 'Just have to make it' from years ago. Probly the best piece I ever, or will make.
Exhibited several times, offered for sale many times, got lost in a move, hopefully stolen rather than lost...

Exquisite work.
