Ah, yea. SU automatically changing colours like that have annoyed me. Maybe it has some purpose now.

Still, it'd be nice to be able to control the shadow better. One for the Wishlist. It's be nice if you could specify in styles a hatch pattern, so you could get white diagonal lines as the shadow fill.... hmm....

So is there any way with Ruby to figure out where the shadow edges would be, create faces and fill them with a hatch pattern? Of course the script would have to be able to update for time/date/latitude changes in the Shadow Settings.

I was wondering if anything came of this question? I am also looking for a way to change the color of the shadows in sketchup. when we used to hand render everything we would never use a black shadow ...blue violet or indigo always brought more life to the drawing for those of you who remember prisma colors.

              thanks,

              Chad

There isn't any native way to change shadow colors. TIG did a plugin called Shadow Projector which works on faces to project an outline of the shadows, you could then create faces and apply materials or colors to those faces.

For my use I find it's just easier to export a shadows-only image from SU and manipulate it in an image editor before combining it with another image export. With that method it's also possible to give the impression of multiple light sources as in this image.

Here's another example in which I used multiple image exports including a shadows-only image. The shadows were treated with a sketchy pencil effect and the colored faces were treated with a watercolor effect in Fotosketcher. They were then combined with a lines only export using one of my pencil lines styles. Quick and easy.

I always just exported my shadows by themselves and changed the color in PS and multiplied them on.
