Importing new textures
-
I just upgraded to paid membership here, am using SU Pro 2015 on Mac OS X El Cap, downloaded some of the various materials groups / folders from here. How in the world do I get these actually into SU so that I can use them in my models?

For .skm, the quickest way is to drop them into
C:/Program Files/Sketchup/Sketchup 2016/Materials - but you may have to make it not "read only" first.wherever your materials folder hides on OSX. When adding stuff on-the-fly, say from images found online, I like to drag and drop the image into sketchup, explode to convert it to a texture, and then move it into another folder from "in model" if I feel like keeping it. -
On a Mac, local collections of materials are subfolders of
~/Library/Application Support/SketchUp 2015/SketchUp/Materials
where "~" designates your home folder. The Library folder is hidden by default, so you can use Finder's Go->Go To Folder to get there or can unhide it via View->Show View Options->Show Library Folder.

to add to Steve's reply:
the Material folder will need to be made if you haven't 'saved' one from inside SU before...
You can use 'Finder' [menu] >> 'File' >> 'New Folder' or save a Material in SU first...
