I guess I should give my reasoning... Lumion is really kool and really easy to use. but it's outrageously expensive and I think you can always tell something was done in Lumion. It just has this look about it. Where with Lumen, you can't tell what did it because it looks so real. And it's priced more reasonably. And Lumen working with e-on means plants... plants plants plants.

LumenRT because it works on Windows AND Mac (I'm using a Mac btw). And the price is much better of course!

I have LumenRT, and I haven't tried Lumion - they appear to be very similar, though. However, IF price weren't an option, I might seriously consider Lumion Pro. Looking at its list of features, it appears to have a lot more content.

Thx for the input. Will be checking Lumen out once the new version is available as an eval.

**I've used Lumion 3 & 4 for the past 2 years with great success. The voluntary upgrade cost for small users, $1500 per year, is pretty tough to swallow. It makes great videos & good enough still images at blazing speeds. Some advanced & talented users, like with any software, get great results.

I use Revit to create the building design, export out a dwg to Sketchup, texture the model, export a collada file & then import into Lumion. All of the materials come into Lumion where we then tweak them. Then we add Lumion entourage & weather effects. Then we make still images & videos, very easily & fast.

What has been very difficult to for many users is that some upgrade features don't work 100% as advertised, such as the grass feature where the 3d blades of grass abruptly transition to a texture at a certain distance from the camera.

The arrival of V5 this week did not arrive to cheers of hundreds on the forum like last year. It has been anti-climatic. I lot of former cheer leaders have disappeared over the year. I get the feeling that a lot of people are waiting to upgrade until they see the results & problems of folks who do upgrade. I want Lumion to succeed since I have a lot of money in this program. But sometimes I get the feeling that the developers are really struggling. However, unlike E-on, makers of Lumen RT, the developers communicate pretty well through the forums. Frustrated Lumion users have been posting links to Twinmotion, another realtime software. It has a lot of promise if it gets developed & gets support. Unless it's changed a lot from a year ago, it's difficult to use & costly. I also tried Lumen RT 2 years ago & found no support, but the features seemed to have improved with this latest version.

My best advice is to visit the forums of Lumen RT & Lumion to get a feel for how the users like the software use, results & support. Lumion except for a few cases has always provided great & timely support by answering questions directly on the forums.**

Lumen 6 has just launched. I saw some promos and was impressed with the new features of 6 which include pure glass, material reflections, direct light etc. I am an architect and a user of LumenRT, and have had these features in it post their 2015 release, however am also impressed by the tremendous following Lumen claims to have in the architectural community. Would really appreciate if a detailed debate on the superior software for architects could be done here to enlighten professionals like us about both software's prowess, and drawbacks. Even software manufacturers could pitch in, for everyone's benefit. Many thanks.

Hey all. I know this is an older thread, but I have just started looking at LumenRt. I am also a Mac User and cannot find the Mac Version of LumenRT anywhere. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I found this: https://www.macupdate.com/app/mac/49499/lumenrt so assuming it was available for a Mac back then I'd assume it's available with the new version.

I personally am only PC, do know a new version of LRT is on the horizon.

From Benoit Fredericque of Bentley (LRT)

What about OS X support? Is that deprecated?

Bentley is committed to keep supporting OS X with LumenRT. However, the release of OS X version is delayed and will occur this fall.

LumenRT was bought by Bentley about a year ago. And, unfortunately, they changed the pricing - not only did they jack the price up, but sell it on a subscription-only basis (under eon, it was like SU - you bought it once, and as long as you paid the modest maintenance fee each year, subsequent versions and updates were free). Now it is too expensive for my modest means; I'll stick with the old eon software version for now.

If I were choosing between the two today (or if I ever get a really huge bonus or win a lottery) I would choose Lumion - for the money, you get more bang for your buck, IMHO.
